tl;dr
The Smash Bros Melee community pulled through, with almost $95,000 raised, Melee is now the eighth and final game in the EVO championship series.
Editor’s Note: Of course our congratulations to go out to the Melee community for winning the final spot but we also congratulate it, as well as the Skullgirls community and all of the other fine folks who participated in the charity drive for raising such a phenomenal amount of money!
Here’s hoping the money can help deliver a permanent KO to breast cancer!
Well folks, it looks like Super Smash Bros. Melee is returning to the Evolution Championship Series. The Smash community banded together and managed to raise almost $95,000 for breast cancer research.
It was a back and forth battle between the Smash Bros. community and the Skullgirls community (who managed to raise $78,000 themselves) but ultimately, Super Smash Bros Melee ended up with the most donations, and cemented itself as the eighth and final game in the EVO Championship lineup.
The real winner however, is the fighting game community, which managed to raise over $225,000 for breast cancer research.
So for those wondering, here's what the final lineup looks like:
- Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
- Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition
- Street Fighter X Tekken 2013
- Persona 4: Arena
- King of Fighters XIII
- Tekken Tag Tournament 2
- Mortal Kombat 9
- Super Smash Bros Melee
So what do you guys think? Are you excited for Melee making a return to the grand stage? Leave your thoughts below.

I would watch Melee, MK9, and Tekken Tag 2.

While I would have much preferred SG to win, as it was the game I was rooting for and donated for, I'm OK with Melee winning, cause in the end SG proved that it has an amazing fanbase, a small fanbase for game that is less then a year old, raising this much money. A game that people love to say is dead and has no community, but this prove the game and its community are alive and active, and that's more then an accomplishment.

UMvC3 and Melee at the same place make me angry at the fact that I can't afford a trip to Vegas

No BlazBlue makes me sad.

To be fair though, the scene's kind of in limbo as ChronoPhantasma is coming out this year, but we don't know when, and since it's out in Japan arcades, people have stopped playing Extend and stuck with P4A since they're waiting for the release. We've got next year though if we can get a good showing out of Persona.

Good. I'm glad pony bullshittery and faggotry is being kept out of EVO.

It's not little troll, they have the indie corner, and they were the forth game to raise the most money despite being an unfinished game. Also there's always next year when they'll be back for another round for you to whine about.
Shinx
Ah yes, I'm a troll because you're a closet homosexual and/or closet pedophile. Of course.
