Father in China hires hitmen to stop his son's gaming

1/2/13 7:32pm

Here's another story from the People's Republic: Father "Mr. Zeng" was tired of his son's MMO habits. His son, Xiao, started gaming in high school and playing MMOs has become his go-to hobby. According to Mr. Zeng, Xiao, now 23, had awful grades in school because of video games and couldn't keep a job, failing to survive three months in a simple software development job.

The obvious solution was, of course, to hire assassins. In-game assassins, more specifically: Mr. Zeng hired higher-level players to kill his son's character every time he logged on. The idea was that if he gets killed every time he tries to play, he'll get too frustrated or bored to keep playing.

While he was naturally annoyed, Xiao stood up to his father and said,

I can play or I can not play, it doesn't bother me. I'm not looking for any job—I want to take some time to find one that suits me.

Unfortunately, the source article is unclear about whether Xiao got a job or quit gaming. My only hope is that he found something less boring than MMOs to occupy himself.

Only problem with this father's plan is his son's ability to make user names to play on. Better get a real life mobster to break his fingers. Only way I can think of changing his habits. Or buying a hot hooker to "date" him and basically cock block him if he plays to long. Something like this has happen to my friend. Fortunately she wasn't a hooker but at the same time she wasn't hot either **BURN**. But the cock blocking did change his gaming habits.

There were no winners here. Only a gaggle of losers in different attire.

Seems a bit...extreme.

What's Zheng gonna do if Xiao just gets addicted to offline games? Will he have to take your advice?

God, I hope not.

That would be the ultimate gamer's dream. Its like having a game catered to you. Its like being the only one and true Frodo in an online game of Lord of the Rings. The whole world is your enemy.

I hire myself to destroy my friends in fighting games and stuff when they think they're really good

Alternatively, the father could have physically taken away the son's equipment. Either way though, this is actually pretty clever if a bit unusual; props to the father for his effort.

Sure China is like South Korea and has gaming cafes. I had the same thought process till I remember this was in Asia.
