Final Fantasy producer leaves Square due to major illness
Square Enix producer Hiromichi Tanaka, who has worked Final Fantasy XI and such classic titles as Final Fantasy 1-3, Xenogears, and Chrono Cross, announced during the second day of Vana Fest that he is leaving the company. The reason behind this decision, isn’t a happy one.
Tanaka told Famitsu the main reason he has decided to leave the company is because his health is beginning to decline due to a major illness, which understandably he didn’t feel comfortable enough to get into specifics about.
However, there is a bit of a silver lining within this very dark cloud. Tanaka says that despite his illness, he is going to continue working to fulfil his dream of creating his own games.
We here at ScrewAttack would like wish Mr. Tanaka the very best, as he fights his illness and takes on this new creative venture.
Take care of yourself sir.
Mr. Tanaka's time might or might not come from this illness (or that he'll read this comment). However, I know he's going to make the best of his life from this day onward. If he survives, then it's a miracle. If not, then he'll die fighting. Either way Hiromichi Tanaka has left behind a legacy in gamer's hearts everywhere. I will wish for Mr. Tanaka the best, no matter how things turn out.
I hope my wish and the wishes of everyone here on ScrewAttack.com will help Mr. Tanaka's health.
Now he needs to focus all his energy on getting better, games can wait.
Hiromichi Tanaka, you will be missed by the gaming community very dearly. We hope to see your work again someday.
2 things. 1) Wow, Tanaka is a big dude. The guy he was standing next to in the Famitsu picture was like a whole head shorter than him. 2) I don't think it's cancer, but he has a serious medical problem. You don't need to be a medical expert to see that. I'm actually kind of surprised, he looked good in his 2010 Vana appearance.
Please don't be dying on us anytime soon, we're out of Phoenix Downs
Sad news, hopefully he'll be able to take things a little easier and get better.
Damn this is a shame..hopefully it's nothing serious affecting his health
It's probably cancer from standing next to those 80's computers for to long while testing Final Fantasy 3. Seriously, that's what guy did, debug; and with how long we ALL know the original FF3 was, that took some serious effort.
