Fire Emblem: Awakening has Day 1 DLC; Demo Coming Next Week

1/11/13 6:03pm

Yes, the very first Nintendo title to have DLC on the 3DS... is getting Day 1 DLC.

Editor's Note: New Super Mario Bros. 2 has downloadable levels.

Earlier today, Nintendo went into detail about how Fire Emblem: Awakening's DLC would work. From Day 1, players can buy new maps, with the initial maps being free and a scheduled release of WEEKLY additional maps for the Fire Emblem fanatic in you. In addition, Streetpass and Spotpass modes were detailed, letting players create their own teams for others to buy to recruit and of course, battle in epic turn-based strategic simulation, the manliest of all fights!

Now Japan has had this DLC for a while and they also got the first map free so it should come as no surprise that it's going to be free everywhere for a while. I'm cautious about how the DLC will be priced for maps and characters, and even though I'm incredibly hyped up for this game (heck, I'm doing an entire retrospective on the series), I appreciate Nintendo and Intelligent Systems not charging early adopters for the first DLC but in the long run, it seems like a rather unfair thing that only those who get it in the first month get to play the first map. Wouldnt it be a great way to show your DLC is worth buying by having just one map free for all? That and when you make characters as awesome as Ike and turn them into... this:

You kind of... hurt me Intelligent Systems. Hurt me deeply (where is his other hand?). Anyway, feels aside, this game is a day 1 buy for me. What do you think of the DLC and this news? Sound off!

THIS is how it's done! Other companies, take notes!

How are other companies going to make money if they release something for free? Try not to be such a cheap bastard and shell out a few dollars to the people who design games for a living.

They pay 40$ for a game, that's how.

P.S. Look at the future profits they could make by proving their DLC is quality with one free map (out of what they say will be 52!) and getting more people to buy it then if it was other-wise not, especially if it's free to early adopters. I think they can take it. -_-

Marth and Ike will be in it? I may need to pay homage to them and get the game then...possibly.

It's a Streetpass/Spotpass/DLC thing. Kind of odd.

Oh god, that does not sound reassuring. What is your problem Nintendo??? I understanding updating a look, but completely changing it is not what any of the fans had in mind!!!
