Footage of a previously cancelled Aliens game by Obsidian has been leaked recently
A former artist who was involved in an Aliens game before it was canceled in 2006 has uploaded some development footage from the game. The footage primarily dealt with character designs and animations but shows off some stuff Obsidian Entertainment was planning for the project.
According to some known details, the game would have been called Aliens: Crucible and was meant to for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The game was also part of two planned Aliens games Sega wanted to release with Crucible meant as a RPG game and the other being a FPS, which became Colonial Marines.
In terms of status, Crucible was basically finished and preparing to enter the mass production phase before Sega suddenly dropped the project in favor of solely focusing on Aliens: Colonial Marines instead.

There's an alternate universe that got Crucible instead of Colonial Marines...it's a slightly better universe.

Does that same universe have the original spore layout? because if it does, I need to go there.

Some of those Alien designs look awesome! This game might have looked way more interesting than CM.

Seeing how bad A:CM turned out we'll probably have to wait another 10 years before anyone dares touch the Aliens franchise with hopes of making a game. This will probably never see the light of day.

Actually, there's one more Aliens game in the works by Creative Assembly but since there's so little known about that title, who knows whether or not we'll see it any time soon?

I guess that's a bit of good news. Hopefully they'll be able to show Gearbox how to really make an Aliens game, but my hopes are still low.

I don't know what I would have thought of this in 2006, but nowadays I would have preferred Obsidian (my favorite developers) to make an Aliens game. After playing Duke Nukem Forever my faith in Gearbox just disappeared. As for Sega, they'll always be my favorite game company but I still don't appreciate them setting up pre-orders and lots of promotion for something as awful as Colonial Marines turned out to be. I didn't really anticipate the game though. The only game I'm holding my breath for at the moment is Project Eternity.

As for Crucible beign dropped in a finished state, that is highly unlikely. It seems to be a rumor since Obsidian hasn't mentioned this.
