g1 Community's Top 10 DEATH BATTLES!

10/4/12 1:30pm

Hey there, g1s! This is g1 2200, bringing you another awesome g1 Community List. This month will be all about DEATH BATTLE! So to kick things off is the g1 Community's Top 10 DEATH BATTLES! Hope you guys enjoy it.

While reading this list, you'll see "Points given to this entry: #" this shows in what place from did that particular g1 place that DEATH BATTLE on their own personal top 10. A DB in tenth place on someone's list will give it 1 point and a DB in first place will award it with 10 points, so on and so on... It's quite simple. All the points are counted up for each DB and then ranked accordingly.

Before we begin, let me introduce the g1s involved with this Top 10:

LousyTactician

"I am the Lousy Tactician, Hershel Lousyton for short and Hershel Lousyton Von Karmistico Armandago Gantson McDowell IV for long. I am a simple blogger on Screwattack, trying to improve his writing skills. My dream is to write my own stories and create games with a team of talented programmers, music composers, and art directors. My more practical dream is to become an English teacher/professor. As anyone who has read one of the prediction blogs made by The Official DEATH BATTLE Fan Blog knows, I'm a big DEATH BATTLE fan and have so far had a good streak of correct predictions, though a lot of that is thanks to the other contributors to the blog: psb123, AkumaTH, and Samurai Spartan 7000."

NewGrangle

"Grangle is a console gamer, novelist by hobby, and tabletop RPG enthusiast. He spent four years teaching English in Japan, but returned to the USA this spring and is currently living in North Dakota. His favorite game series include the Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Super Smash Bros."

SierraFoxtrot

"SierraFoxtrot likes to write. He is a very passionate community member who always speaks his mind even when his opinions aren’t the most popular. He is a big fan of comic books, video games, and sports. He is also a big fan of pepperoni pizza and ducks. He will also suggest Daredevil vs. Kenshi to Ben every week until that Death Battle happens."

Kaibaman41

"Hello Kaibaman41 here! I've been an active g1 threw the entire year, writing news stories finding trailers and I blog about anything besides Video Games on ScrewAttack. I hope to make Let's Plays using my Dazzle soon for the g1 community in the far future!"

Kirbonic-Acid

"Hello, Kirbonic-Acid here. As with many g1s, I am an avid Death Battle watcher. My dream Death Battle would probably be the Birds from Angry Birds vs. the Plants from Plants vs. Zombies- A battle of the popular mobile games. One has a strong defense, while another stays solely on the offensive. ...anyway. Onto the Top 10 Death Battles (Spoiler Alert, the #1 Death Battle is the T-Shirt one)!"

Without further delay, the Honorable Mentions!

Honorable Mentions

Yoshi vs. Riptor

LousyTactician

"Very few other DEATH BATTLES have been this random yet made this much sense. A ferocious, genetically altered, super raptor fighting a cute, cuddly, asexual, dinosaur with a sticky tongue? It just works somehow! Riptor's pre-rendered sprites look amazing when in motion/combo-ing and it was interesting to see Yoshi's wide arsenal of strange skills clash with Riptor's brutal, to the point fighting style. The fight itself feels a little short compared to others, but the ending made me laugh my ass off that's for sure!"

SierraFoxtrot

"Poor Boomstick; his car was completely totalled in this fight which saw Yoshi winning. The reason why I like this Death Battle so much is because I remember showing this fight to one of my former friends who happened to love Yoshi. I didn’t tell him anything about the outcome just to make him sweat. This was the first time where I showed Death Battle to someone else. He somewhat enjoyed it seeing as he was worried that Yoshi would lose. As far as I know, he hasn’t watched any other episode which is a shame. He would’ve sweat even more during Batman vs. Spider-man."

Canadian Brony

"Probably the first instance of what I like to call a "Joke DEATH BATTLE". It's when one of the two combatants is all cute and harmless looking while the other is big and vicious. Sure it seemed like Riptor was gonna take this fight, but in the back of our minds, we knew Yoshi would win. And we were right! As an added bonus, we got to see Boomsticks car get destroyed!"

Master Chief vs. Doomguy

LousyTactician

"I'm hoping this match and the fight with Samus and Boba Fett were just warm-ups for the REAL fight everyone wants (*cough-Samus-VS.-Master-Chief-cough*), but Master Chief's fight with Doom Guy has quenched my thirst for seeing Space Marines fight each other...For now. A 3D fight between the two might have been more entertaining, but the way these two characters shoot at one another on a 2D plane makes it unlike any other DEATH BATTLE so far. It's sort of like the Samus VS. Boba-Fett fight, but with bigger set-pieces and better animation. I originally thought it was a little ridiculous that Chief got all of his weapons due to his 'luck', but my Halo-loving friends diligently reminded me that technically one of Spartan 117's greatest advantages is his luck, so from a technical standpoint it makes sense."

Kirbonic-Acid

"I love me a good old fashioned gun fight as much as Boomstick does (well maybe not). I can't really word this correctly, but the Death Battle seemed just to be that. A battle to the death, no strings attached, and it was great. Also, the tea-bagging thing at the end was a real nice touch."

Flapperdoodle

"When you have a hero that has such a notorious weapon as the BFG, you need to get excited for it. While I do think the battle lacks true hand to hand combat, I think this weapon was definitely weapons heavy, and it deserved to be. It's Master Chief and Doom Guy! You can see the brawn in both of them, and it basically becomes the ultimate Iron Man competition… except with armor. Tons of series favorites, and one hell of an epic save from Master Chief. Plus, seeing Doom Guy's sole head to show his reaction was a very nice touch."

Canadian Brony

"DEATH BATTLE needed a good old fashioned gunfight and this episode definitely delivered. It was really cool to see the arsenals of both Master Chief and Doomguy go head to head and the result was a bloody war-zone. Again, this one stirred up some major controversy among the community and I was a bit surprised to see just how many people dislike Master Chief. Yeah, he's not very developed, but he shoots aliens in the face and prevented galactic genocide. He's cool to me. Anyway, fun battle, the result didn't bother me that much."

UltimateSaiyan

"Playing both Halo and Doom games it was a treat to see these two masters of weapons go head to head. The number of guns I knew would have be taken into account, which made it very unpredictable. And the badass ending and Halo teabag made it all the better."

Haggar vs. Zangief

NewGrangle

"While Goomba vs Koopa before it was probably the first DB to really show off a truly well-made fight sequence that would characterize future DEATH BATTLEs, this one was the first one to really put everything together into a show that would make its mark on ScrewAttack and the internet at large, IMO. A truly interesting comparison between very similar yet distinctly different opponents, wisecracking antics and hilarious explanation, and an epic showdown to the death to end it all! And this one actually made me wonder to the end who would really come out on top because they were just SO similar!"

Kaibaman41

"A Very Early favorite of Death Battle, it was Final Fight vs Street Fighter and it was a really awesome early Death Battle Episode. It was one of the first to have fighters with similar move sets and probably a hard one for Wiz and Boomstick to research on...although the battle was awesome....WHY DID HAGGAR HAVE TO DIE!?"

Flapperdoodle

"These are two of the biggest brawns and most badass guys of all video game-dom. Their movesets are similar, they have similar body-types, and they both are wrestlers. They've wrestled crazy animals for crying out loud. To see this battle commence was awesome. Fists flew, outstretched arms swung, bodies were flung. The ending was quite boring, and the battle should've been much longer (it lacked bears and sharks guys…). But still, the sprite work was epic, and to see the battle truly come to life was overall just awesome. This was something I've always wanted to see come to life, and ScrewAttack did a fine job."

AkumaTh

"I picked this one is because this is something I wish Capcom allowed me to do myself. Also, there is a Big the Cat cameo in this video. Why did I mention that? I worked on that sprite alongside others before Cylent Nite created the definitive sheet we see today."

Felicia vs. Taokaka

NewGrangle

"YAY CATS! YAY GIRLS! YAY... catgirls??? Eh, I like cats and I like girls, but do you really have to cross the two like that? Anyway, sue me for not having much explanation for this one, Boomstick was hilarious and it had an entertaining fight sequence. Moving on."

SierraFoxtrot

"I’ll admit that I have never played a Darkstalkers game or a BlazBlue game. I had no idea who these two characters were and I certainly didn’t have any stake in the Death Battle. I think that’s a testament to how good this Death Battle is. If a guy like me, who knows nothing about either franchise, can enjoy this Death Battle this much, then it was very well done. The fight itself was high-quality as well. In truth, I had no idea who was going to win, partially due to the fact that I had no prior knowledge of each character. The outcome didn’t matter though as I was entertained throughout. That is the mark of a truly excellent Death Battle."

ultraguy

"I’m a huge fan of Tao from the blaze blue games and she is basically my main whenever I play the game with friends or online, so seeing her in a death battle was dream come true. Just like the batman vs. Spiderman I particularly liked how both characters had their personalities come into play during the battle, and I thought the way they both temporally “forgot they were fighting’ was hilarious."

Boba Fett vs. Samus Aran

LousyTactician

"This fight very clearly shows its age when compared to the DEATH BATTLES of recent, but Wiz and Boomstick could have done a lot worse when it comes to pilot episodes. For a 'pre-Mr. Lange' fight, the animation was entertaining, the opening with the two ships appearing was a nice touch, and even though Samus was RIDICULOUSLY nerfed in this fight the right verdict was still reached and that's what matters in my eyes. Now let's hope we see Samus fight the Master Chief soon."

DRQ

"I like this one the most cause of its great anelyze *seems like it has gotten worse over time but hey there still awesome* cause at the end of it i completely knew who who was and what there capable of and that was by it self just cool."

Canadian Brony

"Being the first DEATH BATTLE ever, you'd think it deserves some respect and a mention on this list. It's amazing to back and watch it now, just to compare it with the more recent DEATH BATTLES. You really can see the changes the show has gone through. Also, the fan rage this one stirred up was quite entertaining to read."

ultraguy

"It’s kind of hard to leave the first episode of the series out of a top 10s list and the Samus vs. Boba fet episode in no exception. This was the episode that launched the series and established the basic rules of death battle as well as the hilarious alter egos of Wiz and Boomstick. It also does not hurt that the episode itself was pretty awesome as well."

Sentrybot

"Being the first death battle it obviously deserved to be on this list as it introduced the series to the public and the fight was pretty epic at the time as well."

Top 10

10. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Battle Royal
Points: 26

NewGrangle

Points given to this entry: 1

"The first DEATH BATTLE to contain more than one combatant was actually quite an enjoyable one. It was interesting to see the dynamics of how Wiz and Boomstick compared each individual turtle's fighting styles and tried to determine who had the best combination of strength, speed and smarts to prevail if they ever had to go mano a mano, considering that the turtles usually relied so much on their brotherhood as a team in order to win. Each turtle has his own strengths and weaknesses, true, but they were all meant to work together in a nice harmony. I guess in my obsession with the Ninja Turtles as a young kid, I never really considered what would happen if that bond fell apart. It was a nice choice for a DEATH BATTLE, and a well-reasoned, logical conclusion. However, aside from the jokes on Michelangelo, it fell pretty short on the comedy, so it stays at 10."

SierraFoxtrot

Points given to this entry: 3

"The first Death Battle featuring multiple combatants, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the phrase “sibling rivalry” to a whole new level. There was no love lost in this Death Battle as Leo, Don, Raph, and Mikey squared off to see who the best was. Leo proved victorious but not after a hard fought battle that saw him nearly killed by Raphael. Although I enjoyed this Death Battle, I am curious to know what would’ve happen in the follow-up battle had Raph actually managed to best Leonardo. It would’ve also been interesting to see what would’ve happened if Splinter was the opponent in the follow-up battle instead of Zitz. Maybe it’ll happen one day. Who knows?"

Kirbonic-Acid

Points given to this entry: 3

"Twice as many competitors as usual, twice as awesome. From Raph's rage to Donatello's trolling to Leo's quick-thinking at the end, this battle was amazing. Although the information gathering part of the Death Battle was probably pain-staking, the end result was great, and there definitely needs to be more Battle Royales in the future."

Flapperdoodle

"It took four times to research, it has two times the battling, but still one true victor. This battle royale was very fun to watch for me, because seeing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles battle against each other is a reality only ScrewAttack could make come alive. Seeing the weapons fight each other was cool, and to see the effect of them was even funnier, especially that "special" move Donatello can do. But even more so, it was just the way the battle was executed. The kills were bloody yet awesome, and the final battle between Raphael and Leonardo is just so epic. I love the water turning red due to the blood too. Nice touch guys. It's a great battle, because a battle royale is just more cool than the rest."

psb123

Points given to this entry: 1

"The thing I love about this fight is the simplicity of the combatants abilities. The Turtles don't have extraordinary physical strength compared to other characters and they each only use one weapon, 2 of which are not very deadly. It is their overall skill in battle that makes them such fierce opponents and while Zitz vs. Leo showed how effective that can be more than this one did, this one just has a better charm to it for me. Maybe it's my nostalgia from the 2003 series."

AkumaTh

Points given to this entry: 4

"Everyone has a favorite Turtle and this was the fight that decided it all. What made it great was when it came down to one on one, it was between Leonardo (the leader) and my personal favorite Raphael. Even though the guy I was rooting for lost, the explanation they gave was something I couldn't deny."

ultraguy

Points given to this entry: 2

"It’s not often we get big shakeups on the death battle formula, but when we do it results in awesome matches like this. Not only did we get 4 fighters in this battle instead of 1, but each of them brought something interesting to the fight and while the ending was expected, the standoff between Leo and Ralph was still pretty awesome to watch (and a great reference to the TMNT movie)."

Sentrybot

Points given to this entry: 3

"This is so far the only death battle of this type and the battle itself was very intense especially when it looked like Raphael was going to win then Leonardo managed to take the victory very slightly."

9. Zelda vs. Peach
Points: 27

LousyTactician

Points given to this entry: 3

"It may seem funny when I say this, but I don't think there could have been a better fight to introduce Mr. Lange's animation with than this one, because it's a shining example of how you can take a relatively uninteresting match-up (sorry Peach and Zelda, but you two aren't characters I think of when I think 'crossover fighting') and make it exciting through excellent sprite animation. There may have been more interesting opponents to have entered the DEATH BATTLE ring, but while I greatly enjoyed the Spawn VS. Kratos fight, Mr. Lange's superior animation techniques easily makes this fight trump a lot of the earlier DEATH BATTLES!"

SierraFoxtrot

Points given to this entry: 4

"Before I dive into this one, I would like to say that I totally called it. Nobody was giving Peach her due and when she won, a big smile made its way across my face. Regardless, this Death Battle was close and there were so many times when I thought that Toadstool was finished. Zelda’s arsenal was certainly formidable and it was almost assured that she would win. But Peach managed to get the victory in one of the strangest ways possible. This Death Battle is my favourite simply because of how absurd it is."

psb123

Points given to this entry: 6

"Power of non-canon FTW!!! Seriously though, Turnips blocking fireballs, hilarious commentary by Boomstick, a battle of the bitch-slaps, first time a Legend of Zelda character was in a DEATH BATTLE, and a mega strike to the face, that is all."

Canadian Brony

Points given to this entry: 6

"We thought we knew what the outcome woud be. We thought Peach would get utterly destroyed. We were wrong. Dead wrong. Not only was the outcome for this episode uncalled for, but it ended up being one of the most anticipated DEATH BATTLES yet! (probably because it took about 2 and a half months to come out) The way I see it, this episode could've been really lame or really good. I'm glad to see it was the latter."

AkumaTh

Points given to this entry: 5

"The first match made by Mr Lange, who I have known about prior to his work on Death Battle. He has pushed the limits of sprite animation to places I haven't seen. And he shows that greatness in this fight. Everything looked great and showcased all of their best moves."

ultraguy

Points given to this entry: 3

"While I was slightly disappointed that Zelda ultimately lost this battle, I can’t help but give wiz credit for finding a creative way to turn the tide of the battle. I mean honestly who would have thought that a move used in a Mario soccer game could have such a large impact on the outcome of the fight (I had not even thought of looking in those games)."

8. Kratos vs. Spawn
Points: 28

SierraFoxtrot

Points given to this entry: 5

"Let’s be honest: Death Battle isn’t the most fanboy-friendly show and when this one hit the internet, oh how the fanboys raged. Spawn ended up driving a spike through Kratos’ head but the battle was just beginning as the comment section was flooded with arguments and flame wars. Me, I had no problem with the victory. I do know some people who labelled this fight as one-sided but I disagree. Either god-killer could’ve come out on top and I was thankful that it was Spawn. Maybe it was because I wanted to see a massive argument. >:)"

Flapperdoodle

Points given to this entry: 8

"This is many's favorite battle. This is probably the best strictly one on one battle. Spawn and Kratos are both powerful, but they don't let that completely take precedence in this battle. The battle is a good length, includes good item use, has badass hand to hand combat, and plenty of moments that have you second guessing everything. The battle is more obvious as you think it through, but even so, seeing these two powerhouses fight against each other was quite the crazy battle, with plenty of power and fun to go around."

psb123

Points given to this entry: 5

"The God of War series is My favorite Sony series so it's great to see Kratos enter the death battle arena. Spawn is pretty awesome too what with being from hell yet not being evil and it's great to see wielders of such powerful arsenal's duke it out."

DRQ

Points given to this entry: 8

"While i didnt know shit about spawn at the begin of the death battle man what did i love him at the end. I was chearing for kratos at the begining but at the end i was chearing for spawn when he *spoiler alert* pierced kratos brain."

AkumaTh

Points given to this entry: 2

"While the fight looked great, I knew from the announcement that this was Spawn's to win. Why it is on the list is because I think I caused this to happen. Before joining the Official Death Battle Fan Blog, I made a list of matches I and others would like to see. One of those matches featured Kratos. It wasn't with Spawn, but when I did that list I tend to also link to sprites they could use and I linked in that list a set of Kratos sprites from the Mobile Game. It was those sprites that they used in that match. So I kind of see it as being influential. Either that or a total coincidence."

7. Thor vs. Raiden
Points: 47

SierraFoxtrot

Points given to this entry: 2

"If you read my bio, you know that I love comic books. While a certain moderator and a certain admin I know might not agree with the results of this particular Death Battle, I found it to be quite enjoyable. Being the first kombat between two electricity-based foes, the battle was... uh, well, electric! I was actually worried that Thor would lose but Blondie managed to pull through and win this fight. Never doubt the power of Odin’s son and his mighty hammer Mjolnir."

Kirbonic-Acid

Points given to this entry: 9

"This was REALLY close between the #1 and #2 spot. But eventually one of them had to be put lower. The setting, the special effects, and the finisher were all top-notch. I mean, Thor threw Raiden into the sun. The sun. I don't think any Death Battle can top that death. I mean, Goku vs. Superman can try, but I probably not."

Flapperdoodle

Points given to this entry: 7

"Similar to Pikachu vs Blanka, this battle showed off new animation with amazing electric effects. Pikachu and Blanka may be fighters using lightning and thunder, but Thor and Raiden LIVE AND BREATH thunder. If you thought the effects for Pikachu vs Blanka were awesome… man, this battle throws those effects out of the water. The huge wind storm going on, the time in space, the fact Thor's a god, everything just comes together for an epic brawl of truly epic proportions. The sprite work was strangely well done, and the more panoramic animation helped the scope of the battle… by that I mean THIS BATTLE IS HUGE!"

Canadian Brony

Points given to this entry: 2

"Between this one and Pikachu VS Blanka, I'd say this one is better. Sure it was one sided and predicable, but Boomstick was quite funny in this episode and Raiden put up more of a fight than Pikachu. (In my opinion) Plus, the ending was probably one of my favorites out of all the other DEATH BATTLE endings. ("Looks like Raiden finally found his place in the sun")"

AkumaTh

Points given to this entry: 7

"Again, the match was predictable from the start, but the fight was frikkin awesome. I especially loved the ending where Thor threw Raiden to the sun. That just looked beautiful."

Ultraguy

Points given to this entry: 4

"The animation and fighting choreography for death battle episodes had always been great up to this point, but I think Raiden vs. Thor was where wiz, boom and Lange really stepped it up a notch. The creative use of lightning, the fighting choreography in the tornado and Thor’s finishing attack on Raiden where all amazing. Even now I think this battle is still one of my favorites to watch in terms of animation, and I think it will be for a long time."

Sentrybot

Points given to this entry: 6

"Despite the fact it was obvious that Thor would win the fighting was one of the best in death battle in history plus the overkill in the end was pretty the much the perfect ending."

UltimateSaiyan

"This Deathbattle will always be my favorite and i have watched it multiple times. The reason it came in first place was because of the amazingly made battle. The 3d battlefield, coupled by the guitar music and the epic voices was mind-boggling. It was also extremely action pack, with Raiden launching a flurry of teleports with his martial arts and Thor countering with his power and durability. The animated battle went very well and everything was done to perfection. Even reminding me a lot about SMBZ beautiful sprite fights."

6. Starscream vs. Rainbow Dash
Points: 50

""Well, let's make it fight a giant robot." That there is quite possibly the funniest line Boomstick ever said in his history of funny lines on DEATH BATTLE. The sheer bluntness, the simple straightforwardness of his voice when he ushered that phrase was what finally made it hit me that, 'this match-up is bat-shit bonkers'. A pony fighting a giant robot? OH YES and it is awesome! Though For as much as I don't like the First Generation Star Scream I have to feel a little sorry for the guy when even the most dedicated and hardcore Transformers fans agree he'd get his ass kicked by a rainbow colored Pegasus Pony, albeit one that can reach Mach 10."

Kirbonic-Acid

Points given to this entry: 2

"I love this Death Battle due to the sheer hilarity of this fight. This episode was more of a, "Hey, let's make Starscream look like the biggest idiot ever" showcase- and boy, did they do a good job of doing that. Not to mention, I hear a lot of people became g1s because of this. That in itself deserves a spot in the Top 10."

psb123

"The most hilarious and unexpected Death Battle yet. Seriously, she ATE a decepticons heart! Plus being a brony I really get a kick out of the research of Rainbow's Abilities. Plus this is one of 2 things that contributed to me becoming a brony in the 1st place so I owe it that"

Canadian Brony

Points given to this entry: 10

"Starscream VS Rainbow Motherfuckin' Dash: Oh yeah! A pony in a DEATH BATTLE? This will be great! Who's she fighting? A Transformer? Pffft. That robot doesn't stand a chance! Yes, while this choice is predicable for me, the fact that a pony is in it isn't the only reason I love this episode. Learning about how pathetic Starscream was and hearing Boomstick talk about an animated pony was a riot! This episode remains my most watched ever. Great episode, it got me into Screwattack in the first place."

AkumaTh

"When this was announced, my money was on Starscream. But as I began to think about it more, I realize that Starscream had a big handicap in his match: he was Starscream. What followed is a funny fight between a flying horse and a giant robot. The voice acting was icing on the cake."

Sentrybot

Points given to this entry: 9

"This Death Battle was the one to convert me into a Brony due to how much of a badass Rainbow Dash was and the fight itself was the funniest of all death battles especially Starscream's raging."

"This one was the first one that when I first saw a trailer I was confused of the match up. I didn't know about mlp but the toys. It was the first Death Battle that introduced to me to something new. The battle was funny and the ending with her eating his stark was unexpected."

5. Link vs. Cloud
Points: 53

LousyTactician

Points given to this entry: 7

"Screw the outrage that erupted from the Mario VS. Sonic fight, if you want to see some REAL controversy look at the most recent Cloud VS. Link escapade. Admittedly 80% of the polled DEATH BATTLE audience agreed with the outcome it reached and there have been far more divided matches than that, but as for the 20% that disagreed with the verdict HOLY SHIT were they vocal to the point that this fight led to the creation of our most controversial prediction blog and the longest blog so far has been dedicated to the fight and all the questions it raised. Along with that the 3D animation was excellent (SHUT UP IT TOTALLY WAS!) and with sword-fights being my preferred crossover match the sheer adreneline it pumped was amazing! Regardless of what you thought of the fight you got to admit it had some bitchin music from both Final Fantasy and Zelda."

NewGrangle

Points given to this entry: 4

"This one was quite good from the standpoint of having, for the most part, a very good comparison of the most basic abilities of both combatants, cutting through all the help they get from items, magic and summons, and having the highest production value yet for a DB fight sequence. Seeing the two of them go at it in 3D perspective, especially given all the moves they were pulling off in rapid succession, really impressed me. Though on the other hand, while I personally agree that Link would have a very good chance at winning a duel with Cloud, I found the whole Golden Gauntlet explanation for his victory to be something of a cop-out attempt to try to calm down Cloud supporters who would rage at a Link victory without some sort of explanation."

"This is my number one pick for several reasons. 1) It has the single best arena in all the Death Battles so far (Goomba vs. Koopa gets a close second). 2) It was the first battle in a 3D plane and was amazing. If it was done in 2D I don't think it would have had the same effect. 3) The battle kept me on the edge of my seat. 4) The kill shot was beautifully done. Definitely in the Top 3 kills. In short, this battle is great. That's all I can say. Oh wait, there is also this little thing:

Hilarious."

"I have been wanting to see Link in a DEATH BATTLE so bad that before it actually happened It was one of 2 things I wanted to see on the show more than my own most wanted battle of Sonic vs. Discord (the reason Sonic vs. Discord is my most wanted battle is because that is the full match-up I want to see most whereas with Link and an ATLA Character I just wanted/want to see the characters in DEATH BATTLE!) and it did not dissapoint. The 3D animation is honestly underrated in my opinion, yeah it could use some work but for Lange's 1st 3D animation ever (if I have my information correct) it was really good, way better than a lot of the stuff you see in G-mod. The fight was also pretty awesome."

"Sure, people prefer the sprite work over this. But remember this is his first (as far as we know) attempt at using 3D Renders. With this, whole new options of Death Battles open up because not everyone have sprites to be used. Not to mention you see how good he is with Sprite Animation. That doesn't come overnight. I bet eventually he'll get so good at making 3D fights you wonder why did you even bother with sprites. And too boot, what he had so far was still frikkin excellent."

"To be honest I’m not sure if I liked this battle more because of the awesome 3d animation pulled out by Lange, or incredibly amount of fun I had analyzing the characters abilities, but ultimately I think I have to go with the latter. Being a huge fan of the legend of Zelda series, having an excuse to pour over all of links abilities was a big treat to me. The fact that Lange posted a hilarious video in response to episodes fan outcry was like a cherry on top of the whole experience."

"The battle between the 2 most iconic swordsman in history as well as Mr Lange's first 3D animation for Death Battle defiantly deserved to be in the top 5 as the fighting was tense and was very close."

"The Batman fan in me is the big thing that keeps this from getting higher...Hey, I can agree with the outcome to a match and still be a little saddened the character I love lost, but DEATH BATTLE's most recent match-up of the two of the most iconic superheroes in comic book history was one hell of a battle! It has got some of the best work Mr. Lange has done so far and even though I love Batman you'll receive no arguments from me that Spidey was the clear cut winner for the match. Now if only I could convince that to the other Batman loyalists."

"Marvel vs DC!!! Nah, I'm not really much of a fanboy of either company. Though my favored combatant (and all-time favorite superhero) didn't win, I can't say I didn't see it coming. I was involved in the debate of this contest in the forums, and it was nice to see that Wiz and Boomstick actually seemed to be listening to the very conversation we had been having there and noted many of the concerns that we had right in the beginning of the video. While the video was a bit light in the humor department, the fight sequence was very well-made and entertaining, showing the fight about how I imagined it would go. I just thought that overall this one was well-made enough to deserve the spot it gets in my top 10."

"I love both of these characters. If you go back and look at my blog history, you’ll see that I have them ranked #3 and #2 respectively in my Top Ten Comic Book Heroes blog. They are two of the best characters to ever grace a comic book, television screen or a movie theatre. While I may love Batman more than Spider-Man, I absolutely agree with the results of the Death Battle. But as much as I love this Death Battle, it loses points for its ending. For me, it was too sudden and ended the fight abruptly much like the most recent Death Battle. Still, despite this, it’s one of the best."

"I think this is the better of the two DC vs Marvel battles so far. I love the setting for this battle and the finishing blow. But what I think makes this fight great is Spider-Man's big mouth. "You've got a black belt in stupid if you think you're going to beat me." "It's just not your day pal." "LOOOOOSSSEER!" They all fight so well into the battle without feeling out of place."

"I love Batman. I friggen love Batman. He's awesome, and him battling Spider-Man is a nice idea. I think the battle was full of awesome hand to hand combat, and the new animation was brilliantly used with smooth yet swift panning shots. We got to see Batman show off his skill and training, and we heard Spider-Man's typical one-liners and the webs make the battle more interesting. I feel the ending was a little bit cheap, and that the battle could've been a little bit longer. But there were some awesome moments. It was great to see Batman in action, and even though the ending was a bit cheap, it still was epic… even if I did see my favorite hero become beheaded."

"I'll admit, the first time I heard that this battle was being done, I wasn't as hyped as other g1s were. But when it was released, I watched it a few times and I liked more and more each time. Something about Boomstick's comedy timing and some of the random information given about each fighter just made the episode work well. The battle itself was pretty much what I expected. Batman may be cooler, but Spiderman has real superpowers."

"The reason this isn't higher is because the outcome was predictable. The reason this isn't lower was because the ending was pretty awesome. Spiderman pretty much became a cannon in that last moment and frikkin took out the Bat. If only he had prep time."

"I’ve always been a big fan of Spiderman’s personality and I just loved the way wiz and boom exhibited it during his battle. The best part about watching Spiderman fight anybody has always been his major quipping and hearing his jokes during the fight just made the battle more believable. Also bonus points for the particularly savage finishing attack."

"Again a comic battle that has been argued as much as Goku vs Superman. This made top 3 because both are some of my favorite comic characters, and the detail of the analysis' on both were very pro. The sprite battle was extremely action packed, all concluding with Spiderman's finish at the end saying, "HAVING FUN YET!!!?" Completely badass and gave me chills.

Thought Spidey was going to lose at that part."

"I'm biased on this one since I love Team Four Star, but hearing the voices of Lanipator and Takahata101 made this match pure entertainment and likely my pick for the funniest DEATH BATTLE of them all. Similar to the Shang Tsung VS. Akuma match I was pretty sure Vegeta would take the match home at first, but when they decided to let Shadow go super the match got a lot more tension. In the end though Vegeta won and I'd have it no other way. Of all the DEATH BATTLES so far this is likely the least controversial, but for what few Sonic fans there are who disagree with the outcome well...We know they're all just jealous of Vegeta's Super Saiyan Swagger."

"The comparisons between Super Sonic and Super Saiyan Goku have commonly been made on this side of the Pacific ever since Goku became a household name on Toonami, (I mean seriously, collect 7 mystical McGuffins to give you AWESOME BLOND SPIKY-HAIRED POWER!!!) but this DEATH BATTLE turned the comparisons on their head by NOT using Sonic or Goku, and instead pulling their "dark" anti-hero rivals into combat! There it became apparent that the similarities between Vegeta and Shadow may actually extend beyond those of Sonic and Goku. Coupled with an entertaining fight sequence and amusing faux bad-ass one-liners that totally lampoon the both of them pretty hard, this was a well-made DEATH BATTLE. However, the outcome of this fight was way too obvious, enough to question why someone would pit the two against each other instead of just making a funny comparison video."

"This was a awesome Death Battle for a lot of reasons, the big one it had Team Four Star in the Death Battle! It was the first voiced Death Battle and it was an explosive fight from beginning to end. It had the comedy as if the battle was from Dragon Ball Z Abridged and hell SPACE DUCK even had a Cameo in the battle when Vegeta was on the moon. Plus one of my favorite moments was when both Vegeta and Shadow went Super and Vegeta saying"Wow what a rip off" was pretty hilarious(even though Vegeta was right on that regard) I always find myself watching this Death Battle the most out of any Death Battle!"

"This battle. Some many things right with this one. Although there was more talking than actual fighting, the dialogue and voice acting does more than enough to justify it being this high up. I found myself laughing the whole way through. Both competitors were hilarious even if it wasn't intended. Shadow with teleporting Vegeta everywhere, and Vegeta punching the goddamn moon out of orbit were some of my favorite highlights."

"A battle that is similar to Kratos vs. Spawn in that both combatants wield very destructive arsenals of abilities. Plus the way the whole thing played out was just brilliant. "A bit of an odd match-up if you ask me, but I can see why it works. Both have the ability to become nearly invincible and get golden hair when they do so. And getting Vegeta's DBZ abridged voice actor for the battle was a treat. The witty banter between Vegeta and Shadow made the battle all the more enjoyable and this episode remains the first one I ever got hyped for, seeing as how it came out just as I was getting into DEATH BATTLE."

2. Mario vs. Sonic

"Now, for full disclosure, I was always a Sonic kid growing up, and to this day Sonic will always hold a closer place in my heart than Mario. I do greatly enjoy Mario too, he's just behind Sonic and Zelda in my personal all-time favorite game series. But let's face facts: any kid who grew up playing video games in the 90s has ALWAYS wanted to see these two throw down, and we all had a favorite we wanted to see win. Much like the greatly anticipated Goku vs Superman coming soon, this was a contest that has been raging among the geek/gamer community for AGES, and DEATH BATTLE did not let us down with their version of the climax. They took EVERYTHING they possibly could and analyzed the hell out of it, and in this case, ultimately came to a final conclusion that was actually less controversial than some episodes that followed. For just the enormity of the undertaking, and the quality of what came out of it, this gets number 2 on my list."

"This was a Death Battle everyone wanted probably even before Death Battle was in exsistance! Sega's Mascot and Nintendo's Mascot had always have had a rivalry since day one, due to everyone was in the Console War of thinking the Genesis was better then the Super Nintendo it was obvious this Death Battle had to have been done! Though I will admit as a fan of both The Plumber and the Blue Blur, Mario was kinda a dick in the Death Battle almost killing Sonic by cause of drowning."

"Out of all the Death Battles so far, this falls into the category of the Most Requested, probably under Goku vs. Superman and Link vs. Cloud. As per usual, Death Battle did not disappoint. Although my preferred victor didn't win (Mario, duh), I loved that fact that he made Super Sonic look completely useless against his invincible arsenal."

"Mario vs Sonic, as the years went on, became much more than a battle of games and console sales. It became a true battle. Who was better? Who could beat the other up more? Who was more successful? Honestly, I knew this battle would come up eventually, and even though I knew who would win, I think the battle itself is very well done and very enjoyable. It has a crap ton of power-ups in it, and it is just nonstop action and epic fighting. It does rely a little too much on power ups with not as much hand to hand combat. Even so, the sprite work was good, and the ending was very… very awesome."

"The Most Classic rivalry in gaming history. The star of my very 1st Video Game vs. the star of my favorite Video Game series. The most underated Death Battle out of all of them. "Probably the most requested battle right after Goku VS Superman. I squealed with glee when this battle was announced and I remember being utterly disappointed when they said it would be delayed for about two weeks. When it did come out, I was so anxious to see who would win that I was shaking! I was rooting for Mario but you know what? I accept the fact that Sonic won. (Unlike some other people) Mario is better in my opinion, but he just can't compare to Sonic's speed."

"You know how back in the 90s where you had the infamous console wars between Nintendo and Sega, and everyone supposedly had to choose one side and stick with it. Well I’m the anomaly because not only did I own both system, but the first games for each where Mario and sonic. Ever since then I have been an avid follower of both series, playing virtual all the major releases for both sides (even the infamous sonic 06). Finding out years later that both of my childhood heroes would be ducking it out on my internet program made me ecstatic, and the final result that wiz and boom produced did not disappoint."

I grew up with both of these characters, so i didn't want either to lose or to win. The battle was toe to toe, and the closest Deathbattle yet. But ultimately Sonic sped ahead. Gotta love that hedgehog!"

1. Eggman vs. Wily

"When I first saw this match I was somewhat disappointed that there wasn't a true conclusion for who the true winner would be, but looking back on it I now don't think DEATH BATTLE could have made a better ending. Wily and Eggman may be geniuses with well-known video game robots at their disposal, but at their core they are screw-up villains and infecting a giant, ability copying robot that is capable of destroying the world with a maddening virus sounds exactly like the sort of thing the two would accidentally do if they ever met. Seeing so many robots demolish each other all at once was a nice addition too and I hope one of these days we see another all out war style DEATH BATTLE. I know it took awhile to make, but don't worry DB team we'd be willing to wait patiently for another one if you ever announced it! I'll gladly wait a month or two weeping, sleeping, and masturbating furiously in anticipation for a full blown Superhero war!"

"I will once again admit bias here, because I had been suggesting this one in the comments since I started watching DEATH BATTLE, and when I saw they were going to do this, I reacted pretty much as Wiz and Boomstick did in their announcement of Goku vs Superman. It was a LONG wait for that one, longer than any other DB, and as I watched them choose each member of the two armies I was as involved as anyone in all the discussion and debate about who would win. I was even more impressed that for the most part I was proven right! But enough gloating. The fight sequence for this one, with everything going on and the scale of it, edges out Mario vs Sonic for the most EPIC fight sequence of any DEATH BATTLE yet! I was hanging on the edge of my seat the whole time waiting to see who would win. And then... the ending happened. NOBODY predicted it. I have to say it again: well played, Wiz and Boomstick, well played. Although this ending, too, felt like something of a cop-out, nothing is perfect, and the sheer hilarity and unpredictability of it more than make up for the lack of a clear winner between the two principal combatants."

SierraFoxtrot

"This is, without a doubt, the best Death Battle of them all (currently, of course). This battle was hyped from the beginning as the two combatants were allowed to bring in any minion they wanted. What we got was the greatest showdown in Death Battle history as the henchmen of both evil doctors killed each other off in an attempt to prove who was the greatest evil mastermind. The battle went back and forth with no side showing that they were superior. When the henchmen couldn’t cut it, the big bosses stepped in and started brawling. While it looked like Eggman would finally achieve victory, Wily played his trump card: the Roboenza virus. With the Roboenza virus sending Metal Sonic in a craze, he easily assimilated both forces. No winner, just destruction, carnage, and a high body count. In the end, isn’t that what Death Battle’s all about?"

"A personal favorite for many reasons, two of gaming's Mad Doctors fought toe to toe in a Battle to the Death using their Armies in a DEATH BATTLE! "The longest Death Battle so far HAS to be on here somewhere. Truthfully, when I first saw the winner of the Death Battle I was a little peeved- I wanted one of the Doctors to have a decisive win. "Do I even have to say why this is my personal favorite battle? It is still to this day the longest battle with the most competitors in it. Seeing the whole battle go down is unlike watching any other DEATH BATTLE… ever. There is just so much going on, so much polish, so much awesomeness, that it is hard to contain. So many characters duking it out, with such a… ok, let's be honest, such a decent script! Every character feels like they are being portrayed well. Everything is shown off in glory, even Grounder, Scratch, and Sheep Man. That moment was awesome. And the ending… oh boy the ending. No ending to any DEATH BATTLE can compare with the ultimate takedown. It is by far, no question, my favorite DEATH BATTLE. All the anticipation made up one hell of a fight."

"Probably the most anticipated DEATH BATTLE in the show's history! After nearly three months of teaser trailers and build-up, we were treated to an all-out war of the machines! "What's better than one on one? An army Vs an army. This battle pits Robotnik's and Wily's greatest creations against each other and shows which side is truly the best. But either way, having everything thrown against each other made an exciting Death Battle and a favorite of mine to this day."
