g1 Spotlight: Rise of the Owlverlord
|Creator:||2nd in Command:||Writer:||Researcher:|
Okay, I’m not even starting this spotlight with the usual energy.
I’m JETZ.acx, and it’s 1:30 AM in the morning as I’m writing this. I just got off out of a convention, slacked off on my bed, and barely woke up so I can write this down for you guys. Major props go to g1 Master Wayne for getting me the research out of the way so this process is a bit easier, as always.
*yawn* let’s get this over with. HIT THE MUSicc…..
To be quite honest, my researcher didn’t quite give me much to work with this week music nor artwork wise (might as well wait until a ghost swoop in to change that), but there is this mash-up video of Gradius III done by g1 Dum Dum Duran which uses an OCRemix theme made by OA and Scaredsim…yay, I guess?
Titanium Man of Flash Gaming 5 is still going
We’re at Game 7 and the list slims down to 10 as two players were eliminated from the tournament. Still got until tonight to submit your scores for the game announced in this blog, so you still have time.
The Stickman’s 100th Blog
It’s coming, and he needs some ideas from you g1s. It’s not often that he asks for help or any suggestions (well, maybe it is, but I don’t pay attention), so I’d suggest you buckle up your seatbelts and drive to his blog and comment on.
Everybody’s Favorite Organized Crime Forum Simulation
Currently, Mafia XXXI is being setup by g1 Interweb and it seems he wants to take it in a different direction. The poll is still on, but people want to see a Thriller take on the Classic formula. What do you think? Go vote here.
Cross forum Sig Contest still going strong
I kinda like this kinds of contests where multiple forum sites join in a friendly contest of graphic designing. The thing is still going, and g1 Darkseid has recently updated the entry list. You still got until September 30th to submit! Read the rules here!
Speaking of sigs, here’s a couple that caught my attention this week. (Also, Flaps fired me from Perfect Platformer graphic artist contributing. Eh, I’m fine with it. His is better indeed. We cool, we cool.)

…Ponies. Why it had to be ponies?
On a budget? Let ScrewAttack help you out on that department with some…“quality” tips on how to save money as a gamer.
And something about a certain internet celebrity finally getting his own game…I haven’t gotten it yet (budget) but I heard AVGN Adventures is HARD. Wanna know how hard? Check ScrewAttack’s archived stream and their How Many Lives video and see for yourself.
ALRIGHT Let’s get the meat into the sandwich and make it a BLT, which means the meat must be bacon, therefore, this meat is TASTY! (Sorry, this is me at 2 AM)
First off, we have sad news regarding a gaming legend passing away this past week. Hiroshi Yamauchi died after complications of pneumonia. As usual, g1s (and a Staff Member) pour their thoughts into some insightful blogs regarding this sad news, such as g1 Caboose_-1 reporting on the matter and g1 BigBossOfMoss sharing his thoughts. The one that easily gets me is Chad’s, who went all the way and humbly gave a few words in Japanese at the end of Hard News. Rest in Peace, Yamauchi-san.
And now back to our usual schedule. This time, with a special treat:
GTA V BLOGS
Man, were there many. We decided it was just necessary to give a section of its own to honor them all. Here we go!
GTA V Sucking? How come?
The GameSlean.tv crew has an opinion about Grand Theft Auto V, and they want you to know the Top 5 reasons why it will SUCK. That’s all caps. Which means they really mean it this time.
The origins of Grand Theft Auto
Wanna know the game that started it all? g1 HeavyMetalGamer reviews the first game of the franchise so you can learn about the franchise’s history.
Not quite a review
According to g1 E-Dog, this isn’t quite a review for GTA V, but I’ll give you guys the benefit of the doubt and simply judge for yourselves.
A Rockstar Retrospective
Here’s a video discussing Rockstar Games’ past, present and Future courtesy of the guys at ToasterPig.tv. (The Crouch Room? O…kay?)
Let’s move onto the actual blogs of this week.
Tournament is on!
Lady Mrarkon, Tom the Iron Man, Hardcore Zach and Woodyman teamed up to do a g1 Super Street Fighter 4 Tournament. Dunno how they pulled it off, but somehow they did.
Why don’t I like this game?
That’s the mystery that many of us tried to solve, but g1s Bigjoe91 and Noble Team 1 teamed up to see if they can find an answer to this. The results are pretty interesting…
Bored? Play these games.
g1 Wamahato recommends a series of games from different series that you should totally get and play if you’re bored already of the Marios, the Call of Duties, or – ironically – the GTAs.
Bay TMNT Will SUCK, BUT…
It doesn’t hurt to ask what you want in a film, at least write them down in case you need to make a case when the film comes out and see the flaws it might have. So g1 Luminouswolf2013 came in and made a list of 10 things he wants in the film.
To boldly go…oh the hell?
I’m no Star Trek fan, but there was this game on the NES that celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the franchise, and TheBrotherhoodOfGaming reviewed it.
Fun fact: I *did* knew of a new DBZ film from Japan that topped charts for quite some time. Detective X somehow managed to find a way to watch it, and he reviewed the film.
And now for something completely different…
Well, McDonalds had to be so overbearing in its ad campaign for kids that they actually made a video game to push that even further. But was that game any good? Let’s ask g1 CygnusDestroyer20XX about it…
I heard that you like Rayman Legends…
So yeah, let g1 psyguy goes on and talks about Rayman Legends, gives it a review, blah blah blah…look, his review is pretty awesome to enjoy, so go watch it.
Geek Culture…is it real?
I personally believe it’s what drives this decade forward, but g1 AndrewFury seems to disagree. He does bring some valid points, so I’ll let it pass.
Hammer that into pieces!
A welcome return of the Perfect Platformer courtesy of g1 Flapperdoodle comes in to talk about Hammers in platforming games. My personal favorite hammer? Kirby’s Hammer copy ability.
In the latest edition of the Reset Button, Cyrax and Debaser talk about Kickstarters. Kickstarters EVERYWHERE. And some other stuff too, but mostly KICKSTARTERS.
Hey, I heard about Moon Diver!
Never played it, but I do remember ScrewAttack reviewing it and recommending everyone to buy it. Anyway, g1 Emessai jumps in to talk about this quirky game that has a lot in common with Strider.
Now this one came out of the blue, as g1 Jordan Underneath brought a little insight about this game called Pajama Sam…this can get interesting in a few minutes.
Alright, how about we sneak into the TARDIS and travel back in time when evil was pointing at you and saying, “you know you did this, you’re guilty, yet you didn’t even care, because you’re just like me, you’re EVIL! MWAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!”
Or something like that. Here’s a blog from almost a year ago courtesy of Darkhyrulelord, telling you the Top 10 gaming sins that you just know that you are guilty. Enjoy.
Don’t give a damn. Nope. The Stickman may have been showcased in an event, but this other blog he wrote takes the cake. I dunno why, it…just does. Wait, I know why.
EVERYONE had a character that they can identify. Don’t deny it – you know it’s true. And every gamer at least once tried to imagine said character in a video game. The Stickman took his iconic character, Space Penguin, and simply wrote away a concept about how he would envision a video game in his own eyes. It kind of hit me in a personal level because I, too, had that creative eye from time to time and made my own characters into games too, so this is why I choose this as a personal Pick of the Week.
I would write something about the last Spotlight I wrote, but I know Woodyman will delete it, so let’s wait until Sticky responds and I’ll talk in the comments. >.>
Note from Woodyman: You don't know jack! SON! GET SOME!!!
LONGEST. NIGHT. EVER.
I think I’m getting too stressed with this. Until the foreseeable future, I’m backing out from writing duties on the g1 Spotlight. It’s not that I don’t enjoy doing this, on the contrary – I love contributing as much as possible. It’s just that sometimes things come first in my life and suddenly things like these have to take a backseat. And with me no longer giving my 100% onto something that Woody and I knew that I was good at, so if anything, I’ll take a quick step away and wish big luck to all the current writers and researchers in the following weeks. Keep this spotlight alive, mis amigos!
Until then, this is JETZ.acx signing off.
I can't believe I'm still allowed to write for it.
I cant believe Ive been overseeing it for more than 2 years
I can't believe I've been reading the g1 Spotlight for 2 years now @_@
Gaming on a budget tip number 1 steam, you need anything else?
I always tell that guy all he writes is trashy rags, but he just keeps coming back.
...um... alright. Can't argue with that logic. XD
Dude, that hammer blog was awesome. How could I have not have chosen it... when I put it forward to JETZ I made it out like you were talking about GTA V. He should've used that gag.
He knows I love him.
I understand the stress JETZ. Believe me, you're doing the right thing.
Twas a good spotlight. Thanks to Mashtah Wayne for choosing my hammer blog. Had fun writing that one. Anyway, good job guys. Lots of great pics.
Hey Sticky!!! Noticed you were featured twice this week... You're welcome. Even though I asked Jetz to only use the 'if I made a game' blog. So thanks should go to him.
I got the pick of the week? Well THANK YOU VERY MUCH, THAT'S JUST GRAND. And it'll be a shame to lose you from the team, JETZ, even if the one before this one suuuuucked! I presume that's what you were reffering to.
I had a lot of fun researching for you guy's. All that awesome content to siv through was very fun. If you ever need my services again, you know where to find me.
