[gamescom] Killer Instinct receives pricing and even includes the original game for XBLA
We also got some information on how the pricing for the new Killer Instinct is going to work. The game will be a free download and comes with Jago. If you would like any additional characters, you can purchase them for $4.99 a piece.
However, if you'd prefer to pick up everything, Microsoft will be offering combo packs.
- The Combo Breaker bundle is $19.99 and will get you the first 6 playable characters and the first 2 DLC characters.
- The Ultra Edition will retail for 39.99 and land you the 8 characters I mentioned, plus extra costumes, accessory packs and a copy of the original Killer Instinct for Xbox One.
As of now, the original Killer Instinct won't work on Xbox Live, which sucks, but the devs are trying to make that happen. In addition Double Helix plans to have an EIGHT more characters added to the roster within a year of launch. Remember when you could just pay money for a whole game?
How about just releasing the original KI on XBLA (360 of course) without any bullcrap? People will pay for that without a moment's thought, that's easy money right there
This game's gonna die, no one would stomach this shit. this is horse balls, why would they only give you 1 character? give 6 or 3 at the bare minimum, but of course not everyone agrees and they'll get it anyway, bitch slapped by microsoft again, schocker.
While I think it's cool of them to include the original for $40.00, why do they say they have plans to release 8 more characters within a year launch? Why not take the time, complete the game, and give out a complete project. Street fighter 4 had 16 characters, with 9 unlockable characters. None of this DLC bs. I do think the free to play thing is actually really cool. Lets you try out the game. I guess you could just have a demo, but in a way, that's essentially what it is. A demo with Jago. Having to pay per character is kinda douchey cuz even tho you have the option to just buy the "full" game, some people will get suckered in. Sucks for them, but still. A rather odd marketing idea. Unless you really just want to play with a certain X number of characters.
So the game is free and comes with 1 character, and no kind of story mode... I can understand them wanting to sell additional characters and such, but a game with only 1 character is dumb... you can't even invite a friend over and say "let's play killer instinct" I mean you could but why would you want to when the game comes with only 1 character... I've never played any of the killer instinct games but this pricing model sounds dumb
Its not Steam that does this... That was my fault in saying they do, they just host the F2P games that do things like this.
Im not totally against a free to play fighter but I do wish they would of just made it a full retail game. Who knows I mean team fortress 2 and dota 2 and league of legends are doing pretty well as free to play games
its kinda the joke of dlc the game but for real. instead of this bs approch the free to play coulda had all the charactters but limits how long you can play online...but no they do this appproch....also id like ki1 on the 360
Your to stupid to understand this.
Do you even play street fighter? Ryu vs Ken battles? same bullshit n00bs... Especialy in the vanilla street fighter 4 online days.
No one wants to fight boring jago players who are too cheap to buy the full game.
I swear to fucking god there better be a filter to ban poor lame and boring people who didn't buy the full rooster or own the full disc.
another thing Double Helix can do is have an icon above the player's gamertag showing if they have the full game or the F2P version so I can kick them out of my lobbies.
That original KI game better be on the 360's XBLA.
I don't know that Steam does this, I have never heard of that. (DLC, yes, something like this no) Then again I don't use steam much.
I have a problem because this is setting up to be a pretty weak game for a person who just wants to play the game. Not everybody specializes in certain characters. I know I like to mess around with nearly all of them. Honestly I think it would be fine if not for the fact that you can't get all 16 characters at once. Also 8 characters is VERY low nowadays. Rosters don't have to be in the high 20s (or more) like they are now, but 8 is old school small.
Why are people so against this approach? The only actual problem I see from this method is playing a bunch of people online with the same character will suck. But this makes the game more accessible and gives you a good taste of it and if you'd like to pay for more content, why not? Steam does this sort of stuff all the time and nobody gets mad over that.... Ironic.
I approve of this
Sadly the days of paying for a completer game see to be drifting away. Bu at least the new KI is gonna kick ass.
