Generals 2 becomes F2P Command & Conquer
When BioWare revealed Command & Conquer Generals 2, it really didn’t make a lot of sense to me. C&C hadn’t set the world on fire since the Red Alert days and the Generals universe was my least favorite. It appears I wasn’t alone and EA has essentially re-announced BioWare Victory’s upcoming RTS as simply Command & Conquer.
The game will now be built as a platform for various experiences in the world of Command & Conquer, all in a free-to-play service. The first installment will be using much of the original material developed for Generals 2, but you can expect to see a return of the Tiberium and Red Alert “universes” as well. The game will also be using Frostbite 2 engine. Hey, more Einstein killing Hitler action sounds good to me.

I see no reason for me not to check this out, can't really argue with free. That being said, EA's reputation with cash shops will most likely break this game later on.

I am a big fan of C&C and will check this out for sure. I don't know about microtransactions though.

oh..oh wait i know. instead of in game funds produced by resources we will have to pay real money to have funds!

F2P with micro transactions, in an RTS. These things do not go hand in hand. I died a little today at this announcement. Generals 2 is something that I'd hoped would happen for the best part of a decade, and now that reality has been crushed. Because this IP will probably never come out of this new business model now. It doesn't even have a single player campaign planned. I'm sorry, but there's nothing positive here. This is the first time an announcement about a *game* has made me this down..

Generals was one of my favorite C&C games and was looking forward to Generals 2. Now that it has gone free to play, my hopes and dreams of playing a good C&C game are gone. Oh well, back to playing the old games again

Ughhh ... I have not seen a rts free to play done well yet so I fear for a decent C&C game in the future ... Take Age of Empires online. Yea that's freaking fun. Being stuck in the first freaking age for MANY games before you get to expand or get anything else than the starter units. SO it's like being stuck in the first 10 minutes of a AoE map for like DAYS (if you try to play casually) .... Unless you pay up off course !!

Generals was my personal favorite C&C game since the first Red Alert. It's the only C&C game that I still regularly play. Dunno about G2 though. At least it'll have a great engine.
