GLaDOS to appear in del Toro's next film

12/13/12 7:32pm

Guillermo del Toro, director of movies like Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy, has a new movie coming out next summer, and holy crap does it sound like my kind of movie.

Pacific Rim is about giant monsters invading Earth from a portal deep in the Pacific Ocean. Humanity combats these giant monsters (kaiju, if you will) by building, get this, giant robots.

YES.

Where does our lovable, muderous A.I. come in? Ellen McLain provides the voice of the A.I. the humans use. You can first hear her at the 0:45 second mark in the trailer (below).

I hadn't heard of this movie until this morning, but, as some would say, I came for the GLaDOS, stayed for the mechs vs. kaiju.

Will this casting choice be a huge success, or does Hollywood need to do more science?

I couldn't get through more than 40 seconds of that trailer...the guy's voice just grated on my ears. It looks like it wants to be every scifi movie out there, including the Gundam: Savior movie. Oh and BattleTech/MechWarrior. Maybe some ExoSquad thrown in there. Movie should be called Gundam: Godzilla XCom Terror From the Deep

I kinda want this movie to be stupid. Cuz the setup is just so enjoyable, it would be more fun if it were really dumb.

I'm reading all the comments in the Glados voice now. Oh, and this movie looks super cheesy.

Remember when Del Toro was working on his video game insane and then it got dropped by THQ. Remember when Del Toro would love work to work with valve on a video game. Recently Del Toro said that Insane got the green light again but couldn't name the developer of who agreed to work on Del Toro's Insane. Remember when 4chan's /v/ went to Valve studios to celebrate Gabe Newell's 50th birthday,. He announced valve's source 2 engine was legit and announcing ricochet 2 to was in the pipeline but it's a cover up the same way valve did by announced they were working on ricochet 2 but it was half life 2 that was the they were working on. Now we all know how valve work with secrets and hints with their games. The TF2 man vs machine arg was big examples of this. So having Ellen McLain the voice of GLaDOS being in Del Toro's new movie. So does that means Valve and Del Toro are....(comment deleted for unnecessary information) Nobody will know ever know you monster.

Did anyone else see this trailer and think it would make a great stepping stone to a Neon Genesis Evangelion movie? The concepts are quite similar...

many have pointed out the similarities between this and Evangelion. I don't care as long as i get to see giant robots fighting giant monsters. kinda reminds me of power rangers in a way too.
