GTA V shatters record for fastest selling game to reach $1 billion in sales
While the actual number of copies sold has yet to be revealed, Take Two recently announced Grand Theft Auto V has managed to pass the $1 billion sales threshold after just 3 days since its launch. It ended up shattering the previous record held by Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which was the previous record holder at 14 days.
Here's what Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick had to say about this milestone:
The game also managed to break the record for launch day sales with around $800 million generated, which ends up being roughly $300 million more than the previous record holder which was also Black Ops 2. For comparisons, Grand Theft Auto IV generated around $310 million for its launch day sales.
Going into the release of the game, Take Two had stated they were expecting in the range of around 18 million copies sold and over a billion dollars in sales before the end of their current fiscal year (March 14).
I'm still going to wait for the game of the year edition.
I suppose this should come as no surprise. This IS GTA after all.
Hard to believe they still do that garbage. Seriously, we all loved to watch violent movies, they loved to watch war movies and play games about shooting each other (with sticks and whatever). If your child is too young or immature don't buy it. If they can't discern the difference between real violence and fictional violence they need help and parenting.
Big reason for no PC version is piracy. I know I would think twice about buying it if I thought I could get it day 10 or so for free.
But rest assured, I'll bet the PC version will be out in a year or so.
And its still the number one target that DC love to point at when it comes to violence in games. *sigh* Sorry, my house loves to watch political news. Grats Rockstar, that quiet the achievement.
Of course! You can't beat up prostitutes in the IRL consequence free!
Yeah they might as well make a PC version now. I am sure they realize how much $$$ they will make off of it now.
Agreed. There's no reason they wouldn't bring this out on PC.
PC version now, plz
People care about grand theft auto?
Crazy. The fact that it took 3 days over 14 shows that there is a continued and strong interest in the game. Hopefully this means it will get MGS4 effect; so many copies sold the price drops to bargain bin in just weeks.
YEAH IN YOUR FACE COD! lol. Pretty impressive though on a serious note.
Craig as a matter of fact. Lol.
Well who didn't see that coming. GTA is more popular than pretty much everything.
