Hackers crack BF3 Origin requirement

A group of hackers is giving Battlefield 3 PC gamers a way to play without having to install or run Origin, EA's required digital distribution platform.

"This release is dedicated to our fans worldwide who bought this game on [sic] legal way and don't want to install the trojan from Electronic Arts to play online," hacker group Razor1911 said.

The executable is specifically meant for retail versions of the game, which still require an Origin client and account to run.

Back in August, EA confirmed that Origin would be required to run store-bought versions of the Battlefield 3 PC edition. As you can guess, this didn't exactly help EA rack up the popularity points, and many saw the decision as a "trojan horse" method of marketing the digital platform. The move certainly didn't sit well with the hackers, who released the cracked executable allowing players to bypass Origin.
