1/28/13 12:50am

We’re almost at the end of the first month of 2013, which means top lists for 2012 are mostly dried up at this point, but the fine folks over Siliconera have decided to make one last 0'12 list. By using some data they discovered on Japanese gaming site 4Gamer, they were able to compile a Top 30 list of Japan’s highest selling games of last year.

What can you expect to see among the top 30? Well, a lot of Nintendo games and plenty of RPGs and a few Japanese exclusives, but a few of the entries may surprise you:

I’d love to see similar lists for North America, Europe, and the other regions to see how they stack up. I’m sure there’d be quite the interesting contrast.

Oh and seeing the 3DS Animal Crossing so high up on the list makes me want it all the more.

Most of this doesn't surprise me. Nintendo is probably rolling in money.

Nothing that really appeals to me is on that list. I'd probably say the same thing about the North America best sellers.

Really sad to see RE6 that high.

Indeedy ...

It still sold purely because it had the RE name. We should all stop buying sequels just because they happen to have the name of a game that was great. For me a good example is Dragon Age. Freaking awesome game. I was ready to pre-order the sequel but thank god for some reason I did not and waited for the reviews. That thing is a disaster and since then I don't pre order simply because its a sequel of. I wait for reviews or for a demo or go check it out at a friends house. If we stop buying horrible sequels the companies need to change something. Simple as that

Don't think I've ever looked forward to an Animal Crossing game this much, or maybe its just that I need some more games for my 3DS. Either way I'm pumped!

I knew One Piece was ultra popular in Japan, but I never would have thought it would be the 6th best selling game of 2012 (in Japan anyways)

Damn, Kid Icarus Uprising was at 28? That sucks.

Not a single Xbox 360 or Playstation Vita game on the list. I knew xbox hasn't even been a passing thought over there but the lack of Vita doesn't seem good Sony.

Yeah, I doubt the Vita will do good in Japan, unless a new Monster Hunter is released for it

Monster Hunter did wonders for the PSP in Japan, so I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened with the vita.
