If you were a major Sonic fan growing up in the 90’s, perhaps you know the story of Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s lost level Hidden Palace Zone. An incomplete area in the game that was said to have been discovered in a stolen prototype, a claim that would later be supported by hackers who said to have discovered traces of it in the code of the final product. For years this was merely the stuff of urban myth, to be spread in the pages of magazines and by word of mouth.
To make a long story short, the myth was eventually proven as fact, thanks to the modern day sleuths of the Internet. But the story doesn’t end there. The folks at SEGA have decided to finally bring it all full circle by completing the level and releasing it for the fans who have been eager to see it in proper action for nearly two decades.
Hidden Palace Zone is now available as a piece of bonus content for a newly released Android and iOS version of Sonic 2, which can be picked up on the Google Play and Apple App store for $2.99.
This new version also includes a Boss Rush Mode and the option to play as Knuckles.
