Insomniac files a trademark for “Sunset Overdrive”

2/27/13 6:40pm

Another NeoGAF super sleuth (who goes by the name Kifimbo) has stumbled upon an interesting trademark filing, this time it’s a filing submitted by Insomniac Games marketing director Ryan Schneider.

Since all we have to go by is the trademark paperwork, there’s no way of knowing just what this game idea is, other than the fact it’s an idea for a video game by the name of “Sunset Overdrive”.

Now before we place our guess as to what kind of crazy and imaginative project Insomniac could have possibly dreamed up with a name like that, it should be said be a company representative sent this official response to Joystiq

"As you can imagine, we're an idea factory and we submit for trademarks pretty regularly. There's nothing to announce, but thanks for checking in on it."

So whatever it is, Sunset Overdrive is only in the (very) early conceptual stages and seems to be a routine idea pitch, so perhaps we shouldn’t raise our hopes up too high for this project to eventually become a thing.

But still, I can’t help but be curious as to what kind of wonderfully wacky and unique idea it could be. My money is on a cheery kart racer set in a tropical paradise, with giant laser cannons and such because those things are awesome!

What? The giant laser cannons and such worked for Ratchet and Clank.

Maybe it could be a revamp of Sunset Riders, even though that is extremely unlikely.
