James Bond titles are mysteriously disappearing from digital storefronts

1/4/13 3:58pm

The last few bond games have been well, kind of bad. Hey I personally enjoyed Bizarre Creation and Treyarch Bond games, but with one of those studios now defunct and the license’s main curator Eurocom gone, Activision might have given up the license. As Eurogamer reports, James Bond’s 007 Legends, Bloodstone, and Quantum of Solace have all been removed from the Steam store and Activision web store. So what gives?

Well Activision snapped the license up from EA in 2006 when they struck a deal with MGM. EA had previously decided to get rid of the Bond license and maybe Activision has done the same. While the contract with MGM wasn’t set to expire until 2014, disappointing sales might have sped up the process. The MetaCritic overall average of the last four Bond titles on Xbox 360 is sitting at a 61 and I suppose sales reflect that. So who will pick up the license, we’ve reached out to Activision for comment.

I'd shut down my contract, too if I fucked up as bad as they did with Legends.

If someone does buy up the license, I hope it goes to someone like Crytek UK...

The Goldeneye remake was pretty good if you actually sat down and play it. A bit generic but still fun. The rest recently I could care less about.

I somewhat enjoyed the Goldeneye remake and Bloodstone, but Legends and Quantum of Solace where really below par. I hope Activision don't lose the licence though so I can find out what happens after Bloodstone...

I know this isn't about Bond, but how many studios has Activision shut down already in the past few years? RedOctane, Bizzare Creations, Eurocom, Radical Entertainment... what else am I missing?

I haven't enjoyed a Bond game since Nightfire on the PC, until hackers/modders destroyed online play

Hopefully nobody. Just stick with the movies.

Bond: "You expect me to beg Activision?"

Activision: "No Mr. Bond, we expect (your games) to die."
