[Japan] PS3 is getting a free-to-play Gundam game

Namco Bandai wants to get on the free-to-play bandwagon with the likes of CCP and Guerrilla by bringing their own free-to-play game to PS3 this summer. That’s right, Famitsu has revealed Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation as a free-to-play title coming to PSN at the end of June this year and if you can’t wait that long, then register for the closed beta coming at the end of this month (the site is currently inactive. I don’t know why…). Gundam Memories developers B. B. Studio are currently at the helm of this game.

Famitsu also reveals that Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation will feature 6 on 6 battles TDM style. Details regarding the UI point to the game having radar (NEWS!), multiple weapons, and text chat (yuck!). It is not clear how Namco Bandai intends on recouping the cost of development or maintaining the game and we are not aware of it coming to any other region than Japan right now. Still, PS3 might be the best deal yet if they keep putting out free-to-play games. Just think if these three games came pre-loaded on every future PS3. That would be a pretty nice bullet point on a box, right?
