In celebration of just over 20 years of Mario Kart (released August 27, 1992 in Japan), Nintendo UK launched a Mario Kart 7 tournament for all the fans living in the UK and Ireland.

Players will race in regional online communities for a spot to compete in the finals which take place in Birmingham on October 27.

There will be qualifying stages within 10 online communities, with two separate categories for males and females in 5 regions of Scotland, Wales, England, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

If you're one of the two qualifiers from each community you'll receive a shell cup, a prize bag and a copy of New Super Mario Bros 2. However, if you happen to come in 3rd Nintendo's making sure you don't go home empty handed, giving you your own shell cup along with a prize bag.

Both male and female finals winners will be taking home a leaf cup trophy and 2nd place winners will receive a special cup. To go along with that, the top 3 male and female racers will be getting every future first party title for the 3DS for the next year as of November 2012.
