Metal Gear Online servers officially shut down

6/13/12 10:02am

Metal Gear Online is once again no more. Back in February, Konami announced that the servers would be shut down, and that day has finally come.

The online portion of Metal Gear Solid 4 had a notorious barrier of entry, as the sign-up process (which was separate from your PSN ID) was headache-inducing and the load times (not to mention the time it took to patch the game) were very long. It's no surprise that it wasn't as popular as it should have been.

If you pushed through the whole process, you would have been given a variety of goodies to play with as all of the extra content was made available for absolutely free for every player. The servers have been up and running for a good 4 years. It's a shame to see it go, despite it's problems, as it was a lot of fun. Perhaps we'll see it return someday.
