Microsoft launching Xbox SmartGlass this Friday, listing games compatible at launch
The official release date will be on October 26 for Windows 8, Xbox 360, and Windows Phone with support for the upcoming Microsoft Surface Tablet to arrive once it launches in the near future.
Microsoft previously revealed SmartGlass technology is designed to allow media, games, and apps to be shareable across a variety of electronic devices. The initial focus will be on Windows-related devices but support for iOS and Android devices is planned for the future.
The list of all the media to be compatible at launch was also revealed:
- Dance Central 3
- Forza Horizon
- Halo Waypoint
- Home Run Stars
- Kinect Sesame Street TV
- Prima Games
- NBA Game Time
- Elections 2012
- HBO GO
- NBC News
- NOW TV
- Slacker Radio
I just don't see myself using this
I already have Smartglass installed on my phone and I must say it's completely different from it's previous version (Xbox Companion) the UI changed, can do Xbox search and of course the built-in "game enhancement" controls whatever they call it. Other than that it's pretty much Xbox Companion...
I think there's some misinformation out there. Here is the compatibility list from the Xbox SmartGlass page: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/smartglass#get-smartglass Hope it doesn't suck.
So... Not coming to iOS or Android at all? Or did I misinterpret this?
My mistake since I only got the news from Destructoid and they've corrected their article recently since before it had the line about possible support for other devices.
"The initial focus will be on Windows-related devices but support for iOS and Android devices is planned for the future."
That's not what Major Nelson said....and I'm reading directly from the horse's mouth.
Sounds like something Sony and their devvers fucked up on.
I mean, seriously - is it really THAT hard for developers to implement Remote Play-ability for PS3 games on Vita (where it makes sense)? One of these days I'd love to play some PS3 JRPGs on my Vita (even though they'll look like shit).
I appreciate innovative ideas and stuff, but its lack of compatibility with 99% of what the 360 can do means that it'll be underused.
Halo Waypoint seemed like more of an app to me than anything else but I only remember downloading it when I was told to if I wanted some piece of armor. I don't think I've actually checked it in a few years....
Lol! You win the thread. Granted no one's competing yet but still...fuck it...you win!
Finally, I can play Kinect Sesame Street TV the way it was supposed to be played.
