Microsoft says Xbox One could have been a "disc-less" console

As many may remember, right out the gate, a faulty disc drive plagued some early units of Microsoft's Xbox One. This malfunction could have been the result of a late decision to include a disc drive, as Microsoft Studio’s Phil Spencer recently discussed in an interview with OXM, the company was looking into possibly releasing a disc-less console.

The head of Microsoft Studios revealed,

“There was a real discussion about whether we should have an optical disc drive in Xbox One or if we could get away with a purely disc-less console, but when you start looking at bandwidth and game size, it does create issues.” Spencer went on to say he feels adding the Blu-ray drive was the “right decision” and that the idea of a disc-less console was a result of the studio “focusing on the digital ecosystem you see on other devices.”

But what do you think, g1s? Would you have bought an all-digital Xbox One? Or was the Blu-ray drive a no-brainer? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
