Microsoft spins Halo 4 Crimson Map Pack mix-up as a “thank-you” to customers

12/12/12 4:01pm

When Microsoft was reporting the impending release of Halo 4, there were a number of promotional opportunities to suck gamers in. One was known as the “14 Day, Buy and Play” was a promo that offered gamers who played in the first two weeks, would get a code granting access to specific multiplayer specializations (kinda like Prestige, but not).

Now with the map pack releasing this week, a number of users are reporting they had that come with it! Microsoft officially acknowledges that it was a mistake, but would quickly work to spin the kerfuffle into something great. Now they’re “providing complimentary access to the Crimson Map Pack for a limited time, through Tuesday, December 18 at 9am UTC/GMT” to all the “14 Day, Buy and Play” users.

Nicely done Microsoft! Sure you screwed up, but at least you rolled with it instead of trying to bury your head in the sand.

Actually, it seems like they have rescinded this offer. The map will be available for free until the 18th, at which point anyone who got it for free (as in those who didn't pay for it or the season pass) will have to actually buy it.

Microsoft is essentially turning this into a timed demo of the map pack, and nothing more.

Guess that means us in Europe miss out again, since the unlocking all specialisations thing was for everywhere but here.

you forgot about Sega Suing Level 5 for using the touch screen to control movement in a DS game. The game they are suing over is Inazuma 11, which happens to be a Soccer RPG... why does that sound familiar?

OH YEAH!

This isn't the first time they've done something like this, and I like that they do go ahead with it. The first I remember it happening was waaaaaaaaay back in 2006 when they accidentally released Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on a Friday instead of the usual Wednesday, and even though it wasn't front paged on the "Games" blade (remember the blades? Those were cool) people still found it and downloaded it at least 10000 times. Rather than just take it down and lock all the downloaded copies out they pretty much said "screw it, happy Friday!" and released it early.

I miss the blades! I think it was a lot easier to navigate. Better than the NXE and definitely better than we have now. Or maybe I just confuse too easy, which is also possible.

The blades were indeed the best...I still don't know why MS doesn't allow users to choose which dashboard they want.
