During Thursday night’s Salty Cupcakes livestream, Skullgirls designer Mike Z revealed a few new details about Lab Zero’s upcoming donation drive to fund the game’s DLC. The most notable of which is the reveal of the second DLC character, which as we learned last week will be the game’s first male fighter.
If you couldn’t tell from the banner or thumbnail, the developers have chosen Big Band (or Sax-Deka as he will be known in Japan) to fill not only this role but the role of the fundraiser’s second stretch goal. While the amount it’ll take reach this goal is currently unknown, I’ll wager since $150,000 needs to be raised in order for Squigly to become a reality, Big Band will be added to the game if the campaign reaches the $300,000 mark. But that’s just a guess on my part, so don’t quote me on it. Unless I’m right. Then quote away!
What can I tell you about Big Band? Not much other than he is currently a background character in Peacock’s stage, he looks like a giant saxophone wearing a trenchcoat, and he’ll be free on all platforms for the first 30 days in which he’s available. Oh and Mike Z said he plans on making Big Band play like Q from Street Fighter III…“but good”. Remember, those are Mike Z’s words, not mine.
As far as the fundraiser goes, the developers have chosen Indiegogo as their crowd funding platform and the campaign will begin on Monday morning. The team also says it will not be withdrawing any of the money if the goals aren’t met as both a sign of good faith to its fans and the fact Indiegogo would take a bigger cut of money if this were to happen.
There’s still no word on the complete list of characters who’ll be up for the vote to determine who’ll be the third DLC addition to the roster but Z did say the list of characters the dev team would like to add to Skullgirls is between 25 and 28, so there’s a chance fans will have plenty of choices come voting time.
I know I’ve said this last weekend but I’ll say it again. I would like to wish Lab Zero the best of luck with this fundraiser and considering the amount of money that’s needed for this DLC to become a reality, the crew will likely need it. However, the Skullgirls fanbase is pretty dedicated and has proven its generosity before, so we may just see these characters in the game yet.
Thanks again for the news tip KongK4!

So they basically ask us to shove between 3.75 million to 4.5 million US dollars (25 to 30 characters, each at $150,000) to get characters that should have been included in the initial release of a game that struggles to get some sort of popularity in the FGC... genius ¬_¬;

WHAT???

struggles? Do you not know that it's fans raised nearly 80,000$ for breast cancer research to get into EVO? And why do these characters need to have been in the initial release, were they promised, were 10 character promised? I don't recall so, and your being to harsh, come on, they had to go through a lot of legal troubles that were completely unrelated to them, the developers continue working on the game, despite not getting paid due to said legal troubles; cut them a break, and the characters will be free upon release anyways, no need for such harshness.

Also Unlike some other fighters all the characters are well balance and play differently.

Fuck, If I didn't have work on Thursday nights I'd love to see Salty Cupcakes stream live :( Heh I wonder why the name change for Japan? Is it just for parodies sake since alot of Japan FG chars get name changes when localized over here?
