Minecraft for XBLA doesn’t support SD co-op

5/11/12 3:00pm

The biggest feature of the new Minecraft for many gamers was the ability to share a game with friends from the comfort of your living room. This might not be as easy for some, since the local multiplayer mode does not support standard definition televisions. There does not seem to be any warning of this until the game is booted up and by then, it is too late.

Some gamers are justifiably upset about this and would like a refund based on the feeling that they have been misled. Microsoft doesn’t feel the same way though and will not be issuing a universal refund. Some gamers claim to have received a refund, but when Kotaku contacted customer support, they were told “it would depend on a number of factors, including which customer service representative was handling the case, and that at most we would get only a portion of our Microsoft Points back”.

Maybe they should try to communicate this requirement in a notification when SD gamers go to purchase a game? The Xbox is smart enough to know which resolution it is operating in, so I assume with a little coding that would be possible... Let me know if I am completely off base in the comments.

That is a great phrase if you are still stuck in the 80's. We should still be playing Nintendo drinking original Coke, driving our brand new Yugo. When i had to get a new tv 6 years ago getting one with HD hookup was only about 50 more than a standard, so money wise it wasn't that big a deal since the tv I bought was newer and would "presumably" last longer than the SD models since they were all older. When you buy a cheap tv you get a cheap tv. Now different areas of the globe have different pricing and distribution. but not even Wal-mart carried SD tv's when I was shopping for a new tv. "If it ain't broke don't fix it" only carries so far in this world, and if you believe in that you should not own ANY next gen system since the NES was fine so there was no need to make a 360 or PS3 in you little world.

My biggest gripe with the game is no fucking "The End" zone. no endermen or enderdragon. No run button, no stamina bar to regain health over time. you can bet your ass this shit is gonna be DLC in the fututre, but it still makes me a little mad. I only just got into Minecraft because I'm pretty much exclusively a console gamer and my PC is no powerhouse, so I tend to avoid PC games wherever possible, but in this case, I sure do wish i jumped on the bandwagon years ago on the PC.

Sorry but even if it booted up in sd you would'nt be able to see menu's or anything so its a lost cause, any 360 gamers using sd tv's by this point need an upgrade.

I have a 360 & play it on an SD TV! This is one of the reasons I didn't by Minecraft the same was for one of my housemates who also has an SD TV! I would love to play on an HD telly but a decent sized one is still a couple of hundred quid & there's no way I can afford one! I still can't understand why it cant support co-op in standard as the graphics for Minecraft are so simple!

Because there is far too much text. honestly they should have put it in there regardless because most people wont need to read anything to play once they've covered the basics but I cant help but wonder exactly how stupid they think the average xbox user is to the point they need to limit options so people dont diss there game.

updates are free, the version is 1.6 and it will be updated with everything eventually. keep in mind that this version does not even include kinect support and most likely was kept simple to test for bugs, and keep new players from feeling overwhelmed.

here's my question: how many people who are having this issue actually have an HDTV but don't know how the hell to hook it up properly so they are still getting 480i resolution while still technically using an HD screen (no one on this site I assume). It's a fair point, I've known plenty of people who honestly thought the basic Yellow/White/Red AV cables were good enough to give them HD resolution when they hooked their boxes up to an HDTV and didn't even think twice about Component or HDMI cables.

I have an SD television. Anyways, I'll stick with the computer version.
