Minecraft for XBLA doesn’t support SD co-op

5/11/12 3:00pm

The biggest feature of the new Minecraft for many gamers was the ability to share a game with friends from the comfort of your living room. This might not be as easy for some, since the local multiplayer mode does not support standard definition televisions. There does not seem to be any warning of this until the game is booted up and by then, it is too late.

Some gamers are justifiably upset about this and would like a refund based on the feeling that they have been misled. Microsoft doesn’t feel the same way though and will not be issuing a universal refund. Some gamers claim to have received a refund, but when Kotaku contacted customer support, they were told “it would depend on a number of factors, including which customer service representative was handling the case, and that at most we would get only a portion of our Microsoft Points back”.

Maybe they should try to communicate this requirement in a notification when SD gamers go to purchase a game? The Xbox is smart enough to know which resolution it is operating in, so I assume with a little coding that would be possible... Let me know if I am completely off base in the comments.

While I have no intention of getting it for Xbox either (especially cause I dont have one), I'm sure it'll get updates and fix a lot of problems.

Unless they can figure out a way to make the menus readable in splitscreen on SD resolution it's not going to happen.

Wow not trying to bee too mean, but what rock have you been living under. HD TVs are bigger than SD???????????????? What universe do you live in? SD TVs are usually the CRT variety, those that are still in service and take up more room than ANY gaming device. For retro gamers you need one but someone whose kid or themselves just own the newer systems have no need for a CRT, especially since the newer tv's are cheaper when you need to replace it. There are HD tv's that are thinner than a standard notebook is thick and take up far less room. While the first part of your statement is true, you have no idea what the difference is between HDTV and SDTV.

Well, whatever happened to "if it aint broke, dont fix it?" Games look fine on most SDTVs, and maybe some kids have it in their little rooms, where they may get just some TV for games? Why buy an HDTV for that when you have a perfectly good SDTV? It's really not that uncommon. It's not like people go out and specifically buy SDTvs, it's just what they have had lying around for X amount of years.

My son thought that maybe it was because of the trial that he couldn't play with his sister on his TV. Just tested the trial on the HD and co-op works fine. well poo. Even with the composite cables, it still has to be a full HDTV

I bought this game yesterday, haven't played it on the other my SD TV, and my file is on the system connected to the HD, so not my problem

you can add this to my list on why M$ loves money and doesn't care about its consumers.

It's been that they were going to include splitscreen Co-op for SD TVs but they took it out because the menus for the game became unreadable in this mode (which is a huge deal for Minecraft since it's so menu heavy).
