MLG might one day develop an MLG specific FPS

1/29/13 4:02pm

In an interview with Ben Kuchera, the MLG CEO Sundance DiGiovanni expressed an interest in MLG creating its “dream game”. Yes, when asked what game the organization would like for the eSports market the response hinted at MLG may have to build it, if they cannot find it.  Here are a few thoughts on the type of game MLG would like to see

“The thing is, I think it would have to be derivative of a few things. I loved Quake, and I’ve played a lot of Counter-Strike and fighting games… The perfect game for me is something that would disrupt a little. I’ve always dreamed of a multi-screen experience where you have players and coaches interacting and having touch surfaces and communication… but that’s so complicated and hard to explain.”

For all his complications, DiGiovanni is looking for something simpler. With the progression system of titles like Halo 4 and Black Ops II, it is becoming increasingly difficult to create balanced and competitive environments. With the industry moving one direction and eSports another, MLG might just resort to development. “One day we will. One day we will.” What are your thoughts g1s about MLG potentially making a game designed specifically with eSports in mind?

That sounds cool. I don't play FPS games much with the exception of TF2 but I'm pretty sure an FPS has never been developed with the sole intent of being perfectly balanced and competitive. They could call it "Competitive FPS the Game".

What makes all those other FPS games unbalanced? MLG would give you literally a million reasons. From the guns, maps, movement, HUD, physics, every tiny detail is considered flawed. Their building process of their dream game: having a system with so much versatility that it gets exploited. Then, they'd boil the game's core mechanics into dust due to "balancing."

Maybe MLG would gain some understanding if they tried to build the perfect game. Maybe they'd stop complaining and be reasonable.

Question: Why? Couldn't they use Counter Strike?

There is no such thing as a "fully balanced FPS" or else the game will get boring in a few months. A more accurate term would be an FPS with constant patches and updates to change the metagame.

I think it would be neat. There would be no "You cant use that weapon" or "You cant use that strategy". Beacuse they made it everything would be eligible and they could easily fix content to make it more balanced
