MLP: Fighting is Magic team recieves Cease and Desist

Hasbro has issued a cease and desist to the devteam of the MLP fan game Fighting is Magic.
Editor’s Note: I’m not a brony but I am a fan of both fighting games and irony, which is why I was actually interested in giving Fighting is Magic a shot once it was finished but I guess Hasbro doesn’t see the humor in its peace and friendship loving ponies brohoofing each other in the face. In fairness, I can understand Hasbro’s position considering how much the game contradicts the show’s message, although to pull the plug on the game after the Mane6 crew spent nearly two years developing it is really unfortunate.
But you gotta give Lauren Faust major props for volunteer her time to help the developers make something new with the game’s engine. If Mane6 takes her up on her offer, we might just see something special come out of this. Talk about a silver lining!
Update: Lauren Faust, the original executive producer of the show, posted on her Twitter, asking the team if they might want some original (non-pony) characters to make a new game with. The devs have yet to respond.

We have received a C&D letter from Hasbro's Legal representatives, asking us to cease game development, remove any materials that might contain My Little Pony characters, names, locations or related elements from the sites we control (Our site, our Youtube, our Twitch), and "cease any further use of [their] MY LITTLE PONY property".
Options have been considered, lawyers have been contacted, and resources have been (mostly) exhausted.
We have attempted negotiating with Hasbro for the continued use of the property in our non-profit, voluntary project, but so far we haven't received an answer. As such, we're complying with the contents of the C&D letter until we receive answer from their PR and/or Legal departments.

So yeah. As a brony, this news saddens me greatly.
I've been following this project since its inception. I've even had the pleasure of exchanging a few words with some of the programmers in their Fighting Game Brony Skype chat. Seeing this group of people put so much effort into this... literally months of slaving over a hot keyboard and tablet, for it all to be taken away. It has to hurt.

While this game is certainly NOT my thing, I still must say that this is kinda a mean thing to do for Hasbro considering that the game isn't making money.

Not a Brony but, I feel for the development team. Hopefully they can at least still take the work they have and just apply some original characters to it. Maybe turn it into a commercial game then.

Honestly, maybe the team should've spent two years developing a fighting game that wasn't based on an IP that they never owned and knew had the potential to get shut down. It's too bad and I don't like that this happens but it does.

I can understand why. I mean, a fighting game based on a kids show like MLP? That would go over well with parents. And since when is being a fan of something an excuse to steal someone else's trademarked creative idea and put it into a totally new genre? That's up to the creator and owner, not the fans. I can understand if the owner sees this as a loss of control over their own brand. The less we see of this ridiculous and childish entitled Brony bullshit the better.

First is not childish. Is fans doing what fans do. Bronies are not different than any other comunity. Is not the first time a group decide to make a fan game and is not going to be the last. Also this is not going to stop us. The brony community is all about creating fan content and that is not going stop now. We still have Audio dramas, fan made episodes, PMV, etc. There is even a Brony DLC pack for Rock Band with fan made music.
Face it. We are here to stay.
