The 3DS had Mega May and now the Wii U has its MegAugust(?).
During the hustle and bustle of E3, Capcom promised that seven classic Mega Man games would be beamed onto the Wii U Virtual Console in 2014. Today, we learned five of those games will be released throughout the month of August in North America...although the first of which was released a day early!
The first entry in the beloved RPG spin-off series Mega Man Battle Network, is now available as part of the Wii U Virtual Console's GBA library.
One Mega game will be added to the Wii U's VC storefront per week and it's a nice mix of stuff from the Classic series, as well as the third and final Mega Man X title developed for the SNES and a competitive Battle Network spin-off (a spin-off of a spin-off?).
Here's the list but bare in mind Capcom is keeping the release date of each game a secret:
- Mega Man 5 (NES)
- Mega Man 6 (NES)
- Mega Man X3 (SNES)
- Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge (GBA)
A nice selection for any Wii U owning Blue Bomber fan to be sure. These games will also see a European re-launch later this year.
But this won't be the end for vintage Mega Man on the Wii U, as Mega Man 7 and Mega Man Zero will be re-released for the console later this year, while Battle Network 2&3 and Mega Man Zero 2 are also guaranteed for a re-release but they may not come down the assembly line until 2015.
