The multiplayer servers for the PC version of Halo 2 will be shut down next month

The folks over at Halo Waypoint have announced that they will finally be pulling the plug on the multiplayer servers for the PC version of Halo 2.
Why are the servers being shut down after nearly six years of service? Well, there aren’t too many people playing the game any more. In fact, 343 Industries hasn’t been able to find more than 20 players during the routine server scans that have been performed over the past few months. So as of February 15, Halo 2 will be officially offline forever.
I’m sure this news may sound sad to some Halo fans (especially to these 20 people in particular) but maintaining servers can be very expensive and keeping them online for so few people isn’t a very good idea in all honesty. But hey, at least these fans can say this PC port had about as much longevity as the original Xbox version.
So long Halo 2. You’ve had a good run.
