With infamous franchises such as Mario and Zelda under their belts, could Nintendo be readying themselves for the announcement of a new IP? Well, if a recent trademark filing - via US Patent and Trademark Office - is to be believed, gamers could have a new Nintendo-developed sci-fi franchise.
Unlikely to be replacing the beloved Metroid series, "The Big N" seems to be extending their extraterrestrial interests, as the trademark was filed for a game titled Code Name S.T.E.A.M. Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace. What’s more, as pointed out by EGM, is that the game, could be coming to the 3DS handheld, seeing how Nintendo noted “cartridges and memory cards” under Goods and Services – something common amongst other 3DS registrations.
Naturally, details for Code Name S.T.E.A.M. are under wraps. In fact, it may not even be there at all, as Nintendo has been known the register fruitless trademarks in the past. However, If the company will be handing the title to a first-party developer, Fire Emblem team at Intelligent Systems may be in the running thanks to their experience in strategy games, as Code Name S.T.E.A.M. could be within that genre judging from the name alone.
But, what do you think, g1s? Will Nintendo definitely follow through on this trademark? Or will you only be satisfied until an official announcement is made? Be sure to discuss your thoughts in the comments section below!
