New Tomb Raider movie in the works

3/6/13 10:00am

With Crystal Dynamics’ gritty reboot of the popular Tomb Raider franchise out this week, many are describing Lara’s latest adventure to be quite cinematic. However it looks as though Tomb Raider may also get a reboot on the big screen with the announcement of another movie.

When speaking to Variety, Crystal Dynamics’ Darrell Gallagher revealed that the developer is working alongside GK Films so that the movie will be closer to the latest game rather then the just license. Gallahger said speaking of GK Films…

“They are working from this new take that we’ve given them, it’s a good partnership. We’re seeing the challenges through the same lens.”

It was also revealed that the GK’s Tomb Raider will not be a continuation of the previous Angelina Jolie movies, as both companies want to work around the rebooted version of the franchise. Gallahger stated…

“It was important to both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise. We didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old Tomb Raider films.”

If you want to check out the latest Tomb Raider, it is currently available on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, with no specific timeframe given for the movie. GK studio is lately known for their work on last year’s Argo, and 2011’s Hugo, both of which being Oscar winners.

As for who will be taking on the role of Lara Croft, my bets, along with many others, are on the voice actor and motion capture for the latest Tomb Raider game, Camilla Luddington. But what do you think g1s? Let me know who would be the perfect ‘gritty’ Lara in the comments down below!

Camilla Luddington is a good choice. She is British. Lara is British. Both sexy. Perfect match. Can we get an uncharted movie? I want to see Elena and Chloe.

Nice I enjoyed both of the previous films, not many understood the second one. As it was pure Freemason and Illuminati.

Awesome! I think Tomb Raider is one of the few video game franchises that can potentially translate to film very easily. I mean, anything can make a good movie if done right, but I trust Tomb Raider to work as one of summer's money-making blockbusters. But they'll get some celebrity to play her, since Tomb Raider is prime blockbuster material. Though I think there was some talk of Lara's last model almost getting a movie. It'd be cool to see a new star/TV actor like her make it to the big screen!

Despite the lack of British-ness, I wouldn't be surprised if GK first approaches Jennifer Lawrence. She does a bunch of cool indie stuff between blockbusters so I don't think she's signed to any studio? Also, GK's pretty good. He produced Rango, Argo, and Hugo so he knows how to put a good team together.
