During last night's Nintendo Direct live-stream, company president Satoru Iwata revealed the much talked about 2D Mario sidescroller that's currently in development for the 3DS.
Is it Super Mario 4? Nope. But it is a Super Mario sequel.
New Super Mario Bros.2 will launch in both North America and Japan (and likely every other territory) this coming August and that's pretty much all we know about it at the moment.
Well, we do know that the power leaf will be added back into the mix and that the Raccoon Mario suit (which hasn't been seen since Super Mario Bros.3) will be making a (fully welcomed) return as well. Oh and there will also be a mysterious new power-up, which will turn Mario into Gold Mario, which looks like a new variation of Metal Mario from Super Mario 64. What can Gold Mario do? Other than shine and glisten, I don't have the foggiest idea. But I do know that much like the power leaf in Super Mario 3D Land, Bowser's minions will be able to get their hands on whatever this golden mcguffen is and become Gold Koopas or Goombas or whatever else.
Here's a few screens that Nintendo of America shared on it's Twitter page:
I am so Excite Bike right now. Yippee!
