Nintendo co-sponsoring White House Easter Egg Roll

4/19/14 6:00pm

Mario and Luigi are going to The White House! No, no. They're not running for office in 2016, they're just attending The Easter Egg Roll, which has been an Easter Monday tradition since it was established by the Madison administration in 1814.

Why? Well, Nintendo of America is joining forces with the National Parks Foundation to sponsor the event, and the world-famous plumbers will represent the company as mascots. I know this sounds like an odd venture for Nintendo to invest in but it all makes sense, trust me.

The theme for this year's roll is “Hop into Healthy, Swing into Shape,” which is inspired by First Lady, Michelle Obama's Let’s Move! initiative to combat childhood obesity and encourage a healthy, active lifestyle. "The Big N" is using this event as a tie-in to promote Wii Fit U and Wii Sports Club. In fact, Nintendo kiosks will be set up on the Ellipse for families to get up and get some Mii infused exercise before the Egg Roll begins on the South Lawn.

It sure is nice of the folks at Nintendo to inspire kids to be more active and to help bring this bit of Easter joy to The Capital, which is a reward onto itself...of course getting that Presidential Seal of Approval on their newest console and two of its top games is certainly a nice consolation prize. ;)
