Nintendo confirms that they are developing apps for mobile devices

We're going to touch on the subject of smartphones, and while Iwata didn't specifically provide examples, Nintendo confirmed they're developing smartphone apps. Again their purpose is to drive you back to the existing hardware, "encouraging more people to participate in Nintendo platforms." This is basically what we reported earlier this week and here is the most important quote from Iwata during the briefing.

"I have not given any restrictions to the development team, even not ruling out the possibility of making games or using our game characters. "

Meaning, if they want to make a match-3 Mario game to encourage you to go buy Galaxy 3, then that's what they're going to do. You could call it a mini-game or an app or a fucking commercial, but the point is Nintendo is developing for mobile devices. They also confirmed they'd like one of the apps to enable users to purchase Nintendo Network content for their 3DS and Wii U.
