Nintendo finally responds to PETA's Pokemon "Parody"

10/20/12 6:00pm

Editor's Note: I don't think this is going end in a lawsuit. Sure PETA is using the exact characters, which can be considered copyright infringment but the non-profit isn't making any money from this "game" and it can claim its using the characters under fair use. So the whole thing is kind of a legal gray area. Although I have to admit I'm surprised Nintendo has yet to use its legal resources to shut these games down like it has to legit fan projects in the past. I guess Nintendo doesn't want to deal with the possibility of negative PR in the mainstream press or maybe it just feels no one takes PETA seriously. Who knows?

While it did take a while for Nintendo to officially respond to the madness of PETA's Pokemon "parody", which we all know isn't anything more but its own sick Propaganda disguised as a parody, Nintendo has finally made a comment to PETA's flash game with this.

“Nintendo and the Pokémon Company take the inappropriate use of our products and intellectual property seriously.”

It's unknown why it took Nintendo a good long time to respond to this. My guess is Nintendo probably isn't going to play nice with PETA anymore, It's probably safe to say Nintendo knows a joke when they see it from the fans but with the crap PETA constantly pulls we can only assume Nintendo might actually sue these guys but only time will tell.

So g1s what are your thoughts on Nintendo's statement?

We seem to have a spam problem here, like the last 4 posts.

Welp, if a company like PETA hasn't had a shit ton of lawsuits by now, then we can assume they already know that their little nonprofit parody was protected under Fair Use & therefore could not be sued.

I don't think they're gonna sue, but I REALLY hope they do.

If anyone has it coming, it's those attention-grabbing hypocrites at PETA.

So for about 14 years, PETA doesn't have an issue with Pokemon, but on 2012 it seems to be a giant problem?

Wow, PETA is just an attention whore now.

It's about time that Nintendo is doing something about this "parody." PETA has been out of the spotlight for awhile so I'm sure the geniuses that run PETA were looking for the most ludicrous way to get their name mentioned in the news, or at the very least seem relevant again. Which if you look at their mission statement, is rather laughable in a sad, attention craving sort of way. I want to be surprised that PETA took it this far, but looking back as to what they've done in the past, it shouldn't be to much of a shocker. I'm glad Nintendo is taking them head on. And in the meantime, I will go to Burger King and have myself a Whopper. Maybe two. :)

I'm looking around for a f*** to give, however I can't find one; so surely Nintendo sees PETA as nothing more than attention-craving trolls.

I think PETA exists for the same reason the Republicans exist. To be wacky and make us laugh.

If Nintendo can face Universal Studios, ...and win! I'm pretty sure if PETA drives Nintendo over the edge, Nintendo will do fine.
