Nintendo is improving the Wii U's slow Operating System

1/18/13 5:47pm

When the Wii U came out, people began to criticize about the load times are very slow, such as updates, apps, and games. So Satoru Iwata said that the Japanese trade publication, Nikkei, is working on the improvement of the Wii U's OS. In fact, they're working on it right now. So if there's a new Wii U with a new improved OS, should you trade up for the new one, or if you don't mind the OS, keep your current console?

The old version was a little bit slow. But, if there will be a new improve to be launched, I still want to try it. - Michael Courouleau

When did Nintendo say that the new OS was only for newer consoles? Its obviously just gonna be a patch.

Another thing they need to patch is the option to change screen size in the system settings. It doesn't make sense how you can change it in the Miiverse and eShop but not for the rest of the system

Underpowered hardware? Nah, not Nintendo.

I can say the load times on the OS is much better than day one. The average wait time for me is no more than 6 seconds compared to 20 seconds on day one. Yes I counted.

wish this thing and the 3DS will go region free. where I live most big retailers sell the European hardware but only few small stores sells the official hardware for my country, with each store carrying its sets of games from multiple regions. and to make it worse, the E-shop on the 3DS will only work by changing location and having to pay taxes to different countries.

I'm pretty annoyed that changing the language settings takes almost two minutes. That's quite a niche problem, I know, but there's just too many games with intolarable dubs. A gunship is a helicopter and NOT a boat. I don't know how much those translators earn, but it's too much. Anyways, that's something I'd like to see fixed.

Just opening up "settings" is painfully slow. Any fix is more than welcome.

Get a new console? You do realize you can update the firmware, right?

Well the Wii U loading times aren't that bad but faster loading times are always great XP
