Nintendo to show games made possible only by Wii U GamePad at E3

Nintendo plans to showcase Wii U games made possible only by the GamePad at E3.

Most Wii U games implement the GamePad for off-screen play or as a quick menu, but Nintendo’s announcement suggests the company feels this use isn’t enough.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata recently told those who attended its financial results briefing that these projects were overseen by company legend Shigeru Miyamoto.

“We will introduce multiple games that are designed to introduce players to the value of the Wii U Game Pad by demonstrating playstyles only possible because of it,” Iwata said. “These titles have been developed by internal teams under the guidance of Mr. Miyamoto.”

The titles will range from near-completed games to early development, Iwata said.

The company recently reported an annual loss largely due to poor Wii U sales, so the heavy focus on Wii U’s GamePad comes as no surprise. The recently released Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze sold well, but it failed to increase the popularity of Wii U. The upcoming Mario Kart 8 may change this.

E3 is just a month away, so be sure to check ScrewAttack for everything E3 this June.
