No co-op in main campaign of The Last of Us
In an interview with Naughty Dog Creative Director, Neil Druckmann and Game Director, Bruce Straley Gaming Examiner explores the world of The Last of Us. While they hit on various facets of the game design and how it relates to Uncharted, there is a brief mention of the multiplayer and how that is going to factor into the mechanics.
Now I wouldn’t rule out co-op entirely based on this one statement. Uncharted’s co-op never actually took place in the main campaign either. Instead they were a series of spin-off missions involving many of the characters from the franchise.
As for competitive multiplayer, with Naughty Dog’s focus being “a very tight, well-constructed, narrative-driven gaming experience”, it seems unlikely. Then again, Mass Effect 3 had multiplayer, so anything is possible. What would you g1s prefer co-op or competitive multiplayer?

Hmm...well I was thinking about this last night, in a way it kinda sucks, presumably the girl would be less useful in a melee fight, so what would they give her other abilities,would have liked to see what they would have came up with to make people want to play as her. still if the sp is solid i guess thats ok, also if her AI isnt crap. That being said the actual co-op mp for the Uncharted games is meh. Too short, too repetitive and really the only reason its played on 3 is for skeletons and accessories. Now, I could see this as being the guy, the girl and some other random non hostiles (we must assume there are some) or just some of the other skavangers you kill vs monsters. Not sure if its been commented on but I dout mutants can use guns so if this were the case it may well end up like DS2's meh fest of a mp =/.

Why are game developers so afraid of Main game Campaign Co-op? Halo did it right, Gears of War did it right. I'm tried of playing a game where it feature you and a computer controlled A.I. that's with you for the entire game. That could be another person! Dragons Dogma could have done it too

Exactly, wouldnt you be interested to see just how they handled that? Would they give the girl different abilities? Would they split up from time to time? Would it let her handle a gun in co-op. I would assume the main reason is for story, so you dont just charge ahead of conversations and fight over ammo.

Of course it is yet to be seen with the game being so far from being released but no co-op campaign seems like a missed opportunity to me as a fan of that kind of thing, and the trailer really presented itself as a two-person story. If the girl follows you around, hopefully the AI is really good or it's not an escort mission like the majority of RE4 was.

While it's easy for me to say since I am not the developer, I feel there is a missed opportunity here by not having co-op, and more so by the fact you don't play as the girl instead of the man.
