On October 10th, it's Game Over for G4... and this time, it'll be REALLY dead!
Just when we thought that NBCUniversal had saved G4 from the terribadiness of the Esquire Network, I guess we we're sadly mistaken.
Remember when they made the announcement that NBCUniversal was going to give the Esquire Network slot to the Style Network, leaving G4 as is with NO new stuff to air, save for reruns of Airwolf and other shows? Well, this leaked document from cable company Cablevision may have NBCUniversal's ultimate plan.
Because according to said document, NBCUniversal is expected to end G4 on Thursday, October 10th.
Here's a scanned version of said document:
And what will go in that space?
So, we are officially at the end of an era for our once favorite gaming channel. What are your favorite memories of G4? How's the Esquire Network (which, BTW, launched on Monday) doing for ya?
Forge your answers in the comments below, and hey, if you're starved for gaming content now, how about something like the various YouTube gaming channels (including PewDiePie), Rev3Games or say... this very website?
I watched G4 religiously back in 2006, which I believe was the channel's prime with it's original programming. I stuck with it until DirectTV quit carrying it. Then again, I smelled disaster whenever Oliva Munn left AOTS. I figured that it was then only a matter of time before all the other on-air personalities left. The nail in the coffin was the loss of both Kevin Pereira and Adam Sessler.
This blows. G4 is where I learned how to get the scarab gun in Halo 2. It took my friend and I an hour or so but thanks G4, it was so worth it. RIP.
I used to watch this show constantly until around I think 2006 when they began adding that car show and other shows that seemed more for Spike TV. They then kept taking away more and more gaming and more and more "spike" stuff to where I just never watched it anymore, even if the only "decent" show to me they had by then was X-play. I am surprised it lasted this long after like 2008 or so when it started being like some channel that only shows syndicated shows with only maybe two orginal shows.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! *cries in corner*
G4 has been dead for some time now. This just makes it official,
General entertainment? In what way are thousands of episodes of Cops and Cheaters considered general entertainment?
X-play, Attack of the Show, Cheat, Electronic Gamers, Cinematech Original/New/Nocturnal Emissions. these where the shows I will always remember from G4 and how it drove me deeper into the world of gaming even more then I was before. I think it was 10 times better then what G4 ended up, what with Cops, Cheaters and so many other stupid reality shows that no one gave two hoots about. all I wanted from these shows was for them to end so I could watch AOTS and X-play.
Esquire can drop off the face of the earth into the fires of Mordor and land on a lego for all I care.
all my gaming news comes from Screwattack now, that's not bad, I do think or Chad and Craig and the Adam Sessler and Kevin Pareira of Screwattack.
G4 used to be about the only channel I watched after the merger with Tech TV. Then it was dropped by my cable provider for a while and I was pissed. When it came back, it went downhill quickly. My favorite shows were Attack of the Show, X-Play, and Cinematech. Also, it is where I found the Happy Tree Friends.
Believe it or not some still do GG. Some still do...
People 30 and younger still watch T.V.?
Gaming news are now on the web. Good riddance for a channel that shot itself in the foot.
Only watched it for Adam and Morgan, as well as old Attack of the Show (before the "stand in front of the podium and have the crew force laughter at lame jokes" started). Long live Bob & Steve - Splinter Cell Co-Op theater.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Still sad,the once great (mostly the absorbed and ruined tech TV) G4 once was a thing I loved, then they stopped showing anime, and cinema tech, and other goodies and went way mainstream.Though it's most likely years off both cartoon network and adult swim have the same stagnation going on,and could suffer the same fate.
There was a lot of interesting things on G4 a long time ago, but it just became rerun central for syndicated shows with 2 hours devoted to video games. It's kind of sad but G4 quickly lost it's value when the internet became the source for reviews, lets plays, and gamefaqs.
Man, there was this one show WAY back on G4 called Portal, about a guy sending himself into video games (everquest mainly), I fucking loved that show. and cinematech will always hold a special place in my heart
Maybe ZDTV/TechTV/my childhood can now finally rest in peace.
G4 had its fair share of worthwhile programs. I still miss Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb review video games. I also miss Secret Agent Bob and Steve... I love that shit >w>
Yeah, rev3, SA and Lets Players (dashiegames mainly) have become my G4, but I will always miss E3 coverage and X-Play. Not to mention Ninja Warrior (NOT American).
