Ace Attorney fans woke up to some interesting news this morning, as Capcom announced the original Phoenix Wright trilogy will be re-released in Japan as a stereoscopic 3D-enabled compilation for the 3DS.
As reported by Gematsu, Ace Attorney 123: Wright Selection will launch in The Land of the Rising Sun on April 14 but there’s no word of a western release. However, it’s interesting to note this collection will give Japanese players the option of playing the English language version of all three games. So if the collection doesn’t make its way West, those who own a Japanese 3DS or have the technical know-how to remove the handheld’s region lock, won’t have to have a firm grasp of the Japanese language to enjoy the trilogy.
In other Ace Attorney related news, well I can’t exactly call it news since this info was released a month ago but it flew under our radar,, so it’s worth mentioning and it does give me an opportunity to clear up a common misconception.
As announced during the European Edition of December 18’s Nintendo Direct broadcast, the highly anticipated crossover Professor Layton Vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney will be released exclusively on the 3DS in Europe on March 28 and in Australia the follow day. So the agonizing three-and-a-half-year wait is almost over for mystery solving puzzle enthusiasts in those regions.
As for the misconception I alluded to earlier, when Nintendo originally confirmed the game’s Western release, the company specifically mentioned its pending launch on the eShop, leaving many to jump to the conclusion it would be a digital exclusive like Ace Attorney 5 before it. However, that’s not the case, as seen here, physical copies of the game are now available for pre-order atUK game shops:
Thank you CraigGame!
Can we get a closer look at that logo?
Much pointing. Such objection. Wow.
There’s still no word from Capcom, Level-5, or Nintendo regarding PLvPWAA’s North American release date but when that news becomes available, we’ll be sure to bring it to you.
At this point, I don’t think I need to express how excited I am for the crossover, so I’ll just say the details surrounding the EU/AU release makes me very happy, since the NA release should happen within the same timeframe. … Unless there’s another Azran Legacy situation going on here, which I sincerely hope there isn’t. Also, huzzah for physical copies!
Bringing it back to Ace Attorney 123, as someone who can’t seem to find the first two games for a decent price, I would greatly appreciate a Western release of this compilation. Fingers crossed that Ace Attorney 5 was proven popular enough to make that happen.
