Pakistani government bans the sale of Call of Duty and Medal of Honor games

1/23/13 7:32pm

Recent shooters Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 came under fire from the Pakistani government recently. Some game merchants complained that the games portray their country in a poor light, and the government has put a ban on the purchase or sale of the games.

The All Pakistan CD, DVD, Audio Cassette Traders and Manufacturers Association (APCDACTM) said,

"The Association has always boycotted these types of films and games. These (games) have been developed against the country's national unity and sanctity. The games ("Medal of Honor: Warfighter" and "Call of Duty: Black Ops II") have been developed against Pakistan, and the association has completely banned their sale. Shopkeepers are warned and will be responsible for the consequences if found purchasing or selling these games."

Scenes in both games show Pakistan as a hotbed for terrorist activity, and the government feels they could turn the nation's gamers against the country. The original article points out, however, that there's a huge amount of pirating in the entire region, so if gamers want to play it, they'll play it.

If only someone could tell them that Warfighter sucks. C'est la vie.

Well, nobody like terrorism. And they have the right to do it, anyway. I think they are just protecting the country's reputation, which is of course, a big part of their duty. - AflacAssist.com

We hear abundance of talk about globalization but nowhere are that more clearly than when you're hire self-employed writers. Production Check in Pakistan in very cheap rates.

Maybe if they'd stop taking the money we give 'em to not fund terrorists, and then using it to...fund terrorists, I'd give a fuck about their country being portrayed in such a manner.

im pakistani and i do see a problem the fact that the game portrays us as terrorists when we are the exact opposite

Don't see a problem here, of course they should ban it.

This just masks the problem. It doesn't change the fact that terrorist cells still operate in that part of the world.

Eh, that's not very surprising to me. Nobody likes being associated with terrorism. Same thing with Germany not wanting to be associated with the Nazi Party.

Funny considering the Medal of Honor franchise caught a lot of flak over there before it changed to the modern era...

any WW2 game caught flak here. Especially when some idiot claimed, that you play as a nazi. Cuz the only time you play as a german is in multiplayer, but you play as a german soldier. And not every german soldier was a nazi. though I do recall that you can choose an SS uniform as your MP skin in MoHAA, let me just check that. edit: yes, you can... sorta.
