A petition for a new GAA (Gaelic Games Association) game emerges

8/21/12 6:00pm

A petition on Facebook which was created on Friday has been getting lots of attention with over 2400+ likes in around 24 hours. It looks for EA Sports to take interest and develop a new GAA game for the Irish market.

There have been 3 games made in the past in 2005 and 2007 respectively, made by Australian based studio Transmission Games, for Sony’s PlayStation 2 in Gaelic Games: Football 1 & 2 and Gaelic Games: Hurling. They are some of the highest selling games in Ireland, despite being poorly received by critics and gamers alike.

But what if mega bucks EA were to develop a new title? And if EA doesn’t; who could breathe life into the great sports of Gaelic Football and Hurling video games?

Fair Play to the people involved and if you get a chance head on over to the Facebook page and like. Even big Irish gaming site,The Gaming Liberty, are passing it on directly to EA Ireland. If there are updates, they will be posted.

I'm rather sure that I'd be interested in this game than the other EA American football games so go ahead and go for it.

Fun over simulation, common rule for any video game, remember that you are playing a game, EA forgets that, and such a foreign sport that is solely based as a sim. probably won't sell well in the U.S. However, if the game is less sim. and more arcade, by all means do it.

It's a novel idea, maybe a Wii version would be a good place to start? Maybe even have a variety of sports from all sorts of countries, for example Croquet for England or Boules for France. Sort of like a compilation of sports that wouldn't normally get their own game.

well a lot of sports games sucked over the years, just takes the right planning time and design. the likes of FIFA and NHL werent always great. there was a slump and the likes of PES or 2Ks sports series thrived

Gaelic football is actually a great sport. It has a large following here. Heck, we set up a council in the 1800's to keep the British from taking it away. We would definitely welcome it with open arms. The question is, would the rest of the world?

This is a good question. The 3 other games were comissioned exlusivley for PS2 by Sony Ireland. there could be a market but whether it would be suited to a smaller developer or 1 with more experience in the sport. The previous games were made buy a company who made Aussie Rules game

I barely played the other ones back on PS2 but man that was a weird moment seeing them in Xtravision. Put in some aussie rules mode or something.
