Pikmin 3 confirmed for E3

After nearly a decade of absence, Pikmin are confirmed to make a return on the Wii U with Pikmin 3. Miyamoto has confirmed that we will see the game at E3.
After several teases and a near-official announcement, Miyamoto told Spanish publication El Mundo that Pikmin 3 will be showcased at this year’s E3. GameInformer.com has reported that a Nintendo representative confirmed Miyamoto’s announcement, ensuring that fans of the series will indeed see the third installment of Pikmin on Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U console.
"In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Pikmin game will be shown at the E3 Expo in June. He believes that anyone who has played Pikmin games in the past will enjoy playing."
It is certainly an exciting time for fans of the series as there has not been a new Pikmin game in eight years.

I should pick up pikmin 3 for the Wii U and see why people like it so much. To those who have played pikmin, what is the game genre?

It is NOTHING like what you think of when you hear "RTS," though. You're not some god who can fly around the whole map and instantly relay commands anywhere. Imagine playing the commander instead, except there are no lower authorities you can delegate to (except the other commander in the second game, where you can switch which one you're controlling at any time). Also, your soldiers are REEEALLY stupid (they will not try to avoid hazards like deep water and fire, for example). The only place whose location they ever know is your base; to tell them to do something far away that's not "take this back to the base," you have to physically lead them there first. And so on.
It's really only called an RTS because that's the genre it's *closest* to being in.

Alright, thanks for the info. I also think one of my friends has pikmin 1 so I can ask him if I can borrow it and then when I play it I can see if I really like it. Seeing as how your not a "god" but rather in your words the "Commander" I can see that it will be a much different experience than a regular RTS

I guess you could call it a real time strategy game. It's mainly about planing and controlling all of your little pikmin buddies and using them to advance, usually with a time-limit.

An RTS you say? I have never been a fan of that genre but I will try non the less. Or if one of my friends gets it i'll try it and if I like it i'll buy it

Pikmin 3 to Nintendo is Half Life 3 to Valve. and hopefully they will both be at E3 this year. and if they are, it truly is the end of the world in 2012.

Theres also a lot of charm to the game. and you might even think its soothing at times. it definitely has a unique style that the people who play it can appreciate.
