With the recent announcement of Pokemon X & Y, many of the series' fans are wondering if the popular RPG will be making its way to Nintendo's latest home console. Well, a recent interview with the director of consumer marketing for The Pokemon Company revealed why Pokemon is straying away from the popular console.
When speaking with videogame magazine, Game Informer, The Pokemon Company's J.C Smith explained that while he can't say anything specifically, developer Game Freak thinks Pokemon has found a home on portable devices...
"I can't speak to the specifics, but traditionally Game Freak has always loved the game to be on a portable device because of the communication, trading, and the experience of taking the adventure with you. That's why they've always prioritized a portable version of the game first. They've always liked what you can do in the real world with that."
But when asked about they absence of Pokemon on Nintendo's Wii U, Smith continued to push the point that Pokemon is a better experience on a mobile device...
"It comes down to what the creators want to do. Every time I've heard them talk about it, it's been about the portable experience, taking the adventure with you, being able to share it with friends, communicate, trade, battle - really encouraging that interaction."
What do you think g1s? Is The Pokemon Company making a bad decision by favoring handhelds? Or do you believe Pokemon belongs on portable devices? Let me know in the comments below!

I can understand why, but it still would be cool to see it come to the big screen.....I meant TV screen.

I think the reason why nintendo won't try to put the pokemon on the wii u is because they're trying to take it safe. I mean take alook back at all the crap we got on the consles. Pokemon staduim wasn't a free roaming adventure more like a battle simulator. Pokemon snap was just a photagraphy game. and pokemon gale of darkness even though I kinda enjoyed because of the story alot people disliked it. While I think nintendo should take a risk and turn pokemon into a fighting game like pokemon type wild but 3d. you can't blame them for taking it safe.

Well, now that we have Pokemon battling in 3D on a handheld, what more would the console offer us? HD? I'd be willing to bet that a.) Not a whole lot of people really care about that, and b.) the only reason Nintendo made an HD console is to win back the hardcore market (go ahead, try to deny it).

in other words game freak's direct quote is "rehash rehash rehash". Nothing new here

I don't see what the problem is, and I know I'm going to get a little crap for this but why not do some of what Sony and Capcom is doing. Granted I only know of one instance with Capcom but why not a cross platform experience between the Wii U and the 3DS? You can play at home on the U while taking it everywhere you want with the 3DS, I know I for one would totally sign up for that one.

you guys know what would be actually awesome? a pokemon game that involved every region and every pokemon on map from the begining. I seriously dont believe that they couldnt do it. I mea it would be the best ever pokemon game with a hell lot of more maps and being able to participate in tournaments against npcs or real players, not only against the elite four in every bloody game.

There's nothing wrong with pokemon being on portable consoles but at the same time it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a full fledged 3D pokemon game on a home console. X and Y look great. Just imagine it in HD

If they really wanted to make some money, they should just make a pokemon MMO for the Wii U.

If it ain't broke... but seriously, the 3DS NEEDS a good pokemon game, its what the ds needed, and its what the gba needed, its what the gbc needed... I think you can see the pattern. Once they deliver on handheld with x and y (and hopefully ruby and sapphire remakes(please?)), then they can focus on wii u. and who knows, maybe they can put a really cool cross-platform mechanic, just like my pokemon. ranch.. did... shit.

I'm not going to lie, the big Pokemon games have all been on handheld devices. But at the same time I think that they're missing an opportunity by not putting it on a home console.
