A portion of Aliens: Colonial Marines was outsourced to Section 8’s TimeGate studios
It is coming through the news wire that Gearbox was not the only developer on Aliens: Colonial Marines. Superannuation, uber gaming sleuth, has discovered that a majority of the game was outsourced to Houston-based developer TimeGate Studios. Here is what the ex-employee revealed
TimeGate Studios are most famous for their work on Section 8 and the FEAR expansions. Other studios were part of the process including Demiurge Studios and Nerve Software. Regardless of what was outsourced to whom, it looks like Aliens: Colonial Marines had a spotty development, and the end product may have suffered for it.

Poor gearbox, they make Borderlands 2 and are on top of the world, only to be torn down by this.

On top of the world? I wouldn't go that far, Borderlands 2 isn't that amazing. It's good, but it has some major problems. Its first DLC was okay, its second DLC was amazing, its third DLC was awful. Kind of a mixed bag, and while good overall, pales a bit compared to Skyrim, Far Cry 3, the recent Fallout games, GTA, and other recent titles. Honestly I was more impressed with the stuff Timegate was doing, FEAR and Section 8 were pretty good series; Gearbox kinda dropped the ball to some extent with BL2.

The FEAR expansions were fairly good actually, but far different from what they're trying to do with this game.

Sounds a bit similar to what happened with Deus Ex Human Revolution where neither studio was working with each other and just doing their own thing.

The difference being that HR actually turned out to be a quality product. This game has become one huge mess and hivemind of hatred towards Gearbox. Really sucks how much potential was wasted with this.
