Prince of Persia series put on indefinite hiatus for now

2/1/13 12:30pm

During a recent interview with IGN, the CEO of Ubisoft Montreal announced the Prince of Persia series has been put on an indefinite hiatus at least for the near future.

Yannis Mallat stated the decision was done in order to give enough time for new ideas to be considered and pooled for future games and to focus more on finishing their current projects.

Mallat's statement:

“Brand management is a tricky thing,” he said. “It needs people’s attention a lot. I think it is fair to say that, right now, Prince of Persia is being paused. But we said the same thing for some other brands that suddenly popped up because a team is willing to do it. As soon as we have something to show, we will,”

The decision might have been related to news of a recently leaked demo trailer for Ubisoft's "Osiris" project since it was rumored to be a potential new Prince of Persia game but Ubisoft themselves recently stated the project has been canceled..

Ubisoft Montreal has been the main developer for the series since "the Sands of Time" in 2003 with Ubisoft Quebec lending help recently.

I have yet to get into the Prince of Persia series so I guess I'm fine for now...

I'm perfectly Ok with this. No product should be shoved into the market just to keep a franchise afloat. If there isn't a good reason other than releasing an engaging story and game, we don't need a new Prince every one or two years, As long as it doesn't mean the death of the series, there many other games out there.

Didn't the last one sell really bad?

That is seriously unfortunate. The epilogue of the Prince of Persia reboot ended on a cliffhanger, and now it seems like it will never be continued or resolved.
