Project Phoenix is an Ambitious combination of JRPG and RTS
Editor's Note: I've embed the Kickstarter video as well.
Well, this is nuts.
A group of talent from the east and the west decided to join together and make a game that would combine JRPG and WRPG mechanics and styles, giving the temporary title of Project Phoenix. Among the talent includes people who have worked on Diablo III, Valkyria Chronicles, L.A. Noire, Tenchu, Final Fantasy, The Last Story, Lost Odyssey, Skyrim, Assassins' Creed II, and even a few movies and anime like STEINS;GATE and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. That's just nuts.
The team is mainly doing this out of their own time and money, thus why the Kickstarter's initial goal is so low, as many of them have already lent their own cash for the project. That said, they've already broken that starting goal in nine hours and are trying to reach stretch goals, including character creation and a massive overworld. With as fast as they're getting money, I fully expect that they'll get their goals all met.
This is incredibly ambitious, and I want to see this get made. Even if the final product is only above average, I've never seen anyone try anything like this before. If I had the money to support this, I would in a heartbeat.
Um, what does that have to do with my comment?
This could be very interesting... I mean, the east and west working together for a greater good? Here guys- have all of my money.
*Throws all money at screen.* Um... Nothing's happening.
Actually, there's already a JRPG series that functions similar to this called Growlanser.
Beautiful art and it sounds like it has a lot of talent behind it. Too bad for me though, I'd never be able to get into a game that's JRPG/RTS.
UEMATSU-KUN! MY MONEY IS YOURS!!!!
To see ambition like this outside of the indie scene in this industry is actually a bit refreshing, as well as it is inspiring to see veterans of different genre & media come together to make something new.
Basically seeing this makes me want to do this.
He's not the only composer, check out the text near the sample tracks. Still, the musical team is amazing.
I saw this yesterday, I am really intrigued by it. The composer for the game is going to be Nobuo Uematsu, so that alone is kind of big time.
