The PS4 is more powerful than Xbox One? Microsoft disagrees with that assumption
I can't really say... All I do know is that the xbo increased its processor speed by 25 mHz recently.
Besides, running a windows 8 OS is only bad news for them... I guaranty that in 3 the OS will change, just like the 360 did, not only once but twice...
Really? That's neat. Could you ask him which of the Xbox One's OSs takes up the most resources? Since there were supposed to be three separate Operating Systems running on the One at the same time, I was curious as to how that worked out for the console.
Agreed... We won't know which system truly is more powerful until we get out hands on it. Agreed... At the end of the day... it comes down to the games.
A buddy of mine worked hands on with both devkits for the next gen and ps4 has less memory dedicated to the OS than the xb1
Looks to me like Microsoft's getting some e-peen jealousy. And you know what, I really don't give a crap about flashy graphics nearly as much as I care about whether the games are worth a crap.
I don't know how anyone could determine an increase or not based on those vague details linked in the article (assuming that's all the information that's out there, I didn't look).
I've built computers for years. You need the components to match up and work together. I see that the PS4's video card has more bandwidth leading to the motherboard. This doesn't mean shit if the GPU can't handle it, or the CPU can't send it fast enough.
I also heard the XBOX cpu will use out of order execution. Not sure it that's true, but that would allow the XBOX to get the little processes out of the way during periods when a traditional CPU would be doing nothing at all. Two processors at the same clock speed wouldn't process the same amount of data if one uses OOE and one didn't.
Same goes for the faster RAM. The extra bandwidth doesn't mean anything if the processor can't address the 170 GB/s per channel it's capable of. Then you have the opposite of a bottleneck. From what I've heard current ATI cards using DDR3 memory are just barely handling the current architecture. Barely handling the bandwidth of current DDR3 cards tells me the increase in thorough-put is going to be minimal. Definitely not 30%.
Like I said in the beginning, the whole system has to balance. With the crap information we're given there's no way to accurately tell which system is going to have better graphics capability without seeing them hands on.
I want to also point out, in the two generations where Sony ruled supreme in the gaming industry, both times they have some of the weakest hardware available. Powerful specs don't sell systems, games do.
You mention three games that I didn't enjoy at all, and in addition to Cthulu Saves the World, you forgot Zeboyd's other big game, Breath of Death VII (not to forget both of their Penny Arcade games, On a Rain Slice Precipice of Darkness 3 and 4). I would also recommend Take Arms and 48 Chambers by Discord Games, both very fresh. Also for your consideration I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1NIT!!!1, ZP2K9, and ZP2KX by Ska Studios. Those are the ones that I own that I can remember off the top of my head but I'd be happy to list more if you'd like.
Oh yes, I forgot, Beat Hazard, that is awesome, as well as Return all Robots by Space Whale Studios, a game created by a fellow g1!
on that, sony still havent stated how the ps4s cpu runs, the rumor is currently on 2.00Ghtz, but other than that they never said anything about it running at 1.6
actually, no it isnt, that 4.5 is basically a rumor and its apparently actually closer to 6 gigs, also theres already developers prior and after that rumor came out that have stated they are using more RAM than those 4.5 in the rumor, and even if they were only using just those 4.5 or the same in the xbox the difference would still be huge, mainly because of a similar CPU, more powerful GPU and RAM which is GDDR5 to begin with, unlike xbox DDR3
I actually find it weird that Xbox one doesn't have more ram attributed to its OS considering the amount of stuff they're trying to make it run at once (Game, TV, Movie, other random apps...)
I'm not an expert but won't that cause the system to slow down at some point?!
Of course he said that! What Competitor would say "Yeah, they have a better Console"
Actually, The current specs as far as overall preorders is for every 1 xbo sold there are 1.71 PS4's sold as of august 29th. So yeah, PS4 is ahead and for the most part is because Microsoft is only making such a limited number for pre-order because they want to flop their dicks all over the "day-one" achivement and because they thought that this would be enough, but obviously not. I've had so many people who are loyal Microsoft fans jump over to the Sony wagon just because Microsoft can't put out a proper system at launch.
(all numbers are for the US, europe and asia are not included)
Flow, Flower, Journey. You cannot sit there with a straight face and tell me that those games were not fantastic. What does Microsoft has far as indie titles? Cthulu saves the world?
Please don't doubt Microsoft guys, that's not wise. Trust me. It's borderline idiotic to believe Microsoft won't have the best computable capabilities available. Sony is not Apple, so Microsoft is better.
You should also consider that The OS on the PS4 has 3.5 gigs dedicated to its functions. I don't think Microsoft has given an official statement for how much space their OS would take, but the current rumor is around 3 gigs. If that's true, that'd leave about 4.5 gigs dedicated to games on the PS4 and 5 gigs on the Xbox One. So yeah, not too much of a difference. Don't take what I say too strongly though, I will admit, it has been a while since I've worked with this kind of hardware.
They... know that it's rare for hardware that is literally not even released to the public for use yet to be utilized fully by any software, let alone hardware that's less than a year old?
Yeah, from what I understand, you don't even need to have it attached to the console anymore.
Unless there's a magic rodent running in a rainbow hamster wheel that sends 1000 volts of wizard power through the XBOX, there's no possible way that the hardware can keep up to PS4's. The PS4's graphics card is hugely more powerful than the Xbox One's, not to mention the GDDR5 which has double the I/O of DDR3. This all coming in before you take into account that the XBOX is running a huge giant Windows 8 Kernel the whole time that you're playing a game, plus resource hogging Skype. They better have some really ingenious crazy outlandish ideas for "the cloud" that they keep talking about to increase game's performance if they want to back up their claims here. It's not different architecture like it was with the previous gen, you can look at these things side by side and clearly see the hardware differences.
DDR5 VS DDR3 nuff said.
