RE6 will feature 30 hour campaign, drop in/out co-op, and zombies!

4/11/12 3:00pm

A lot of sites had a chance to see Resident Evil 6 in action at Captivate last week. While we didn’t share the esteemed pleasure, there has been a fair amount of news coming out regarding the next AAA title for the franchise. The biggest of which is the interwoven series of stories divided up between three protagonists. In an interview with NowGamer, Sasaki revealed the following details.

“The three characters each have their own story and you can choose whichever one you want and play that story, experience that character’s story… In terms of length, each character’s story is a little bit less than RE5 but when you combine them together you’re getting something that is much longer. While each character’s story stands alone, all of the characters wind up in the same area of the game, in China, so there is a certain level of overlap.”

Additionally, Destructoid has revealed that each campaign will be co-op with three main characters and their respective supporting characters. The three mains are of course Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield and new character Jake Muller. “All campaigns can be played solo or co-op, online or off, with full drop-in, drop-out support”. Lastly, there is a new virus called the C-virus, which is bringing back the original zombie goodness we all know and love. Having been a huge fan of RE5 and its co-op, seeing Capcom build a campaign around those mechanics has me all warm and tingly inside. Don't forget RE6 is releasing on October 2nd now!

So...in other words if I were to choose for example, Leon then I'll stick with him throughout the entire length of the game without switching back and forth between characters right?

It feels like the zombies are simply fan service rather than a RE neccesity.

I dunno about the co-op, I mean co-op is cool and all, but if you have a 2nd person with you all the time, doesn't that take away the scaryness?

I like the multiple storyline aspect, especially since Capcom seems to be testing out different playstyles for this game, but I really wish they wouldn't insist with the co-op. I enjoy co-op games, but it is damn near impossible to get any kind of tension while playing them.

I'm partly excited about a 30 hour campaign and part worried. I dunno if I can handle soo much Resident Evil. I'll have to pull through!
