[Update] Riot Games’ Season Four League of Legends contract changed based on community feedback
Update: The Internet has done it again! After so much feedback from the LoL community, Riot has changed the terms of the Season 4 LoL contract to reflect their true intentions. “While under contract to the LCS, teams and players can’t accept sponsorship from other game companies to promote other titles. Besides that, they are free to stream any games they want.” Congrats to the community for supporting their players and making Riot take a more level headed approach to the situation.
With the rise of eSports as a legitimate “sport”, there are sure to be some growing pains. Riot’s latest contract for the League of Legends fourth season has a clause that precludes livestreaming of any competing product. The full list is below, but sufficed to say this includes almost every MOBA, RTS, and MMO with PVP. I guess the FPS crowd isn’t considered competition, but I can only imagine what some of these players and fans are thinking right now.
Riot on the other hand has already issued a statement, pointing to how
Gambling, drugs, guns, pornography and tobacco products are strictly forbidden as well. Well pro streamers, it's time to stream all your bad habits before this kicks in. I expect these last few streams to be wild!
